I would say good is a luxury...We've gone for the bog standard conference chicken...Apparently its moist an tastes lovely but if we upgraded to a nice beef fillet that would be a luxury?

You can get real bouquets frozen for storage somehow? Probably cheaper than 2 bouquets? I'm having an artificial one as I'm terrified of bees and wasps so would end up throwing it across the room if one came close to me.

    My little luxuries:

    - good food

    - dessert wine

    - macaron tower

    - drinks that didn't run out

    - string quartet

    - more food in evening even though no evening guests

You previously quoted that food was "a big part", citing (apparently) large prices for wedding breakfasts and listing buffets and hog roasts as some things you might do, under a post entitled "additional luxury items".

Then you say that good food isn't a luxury item.

I asked for YOUR definition of a "luxury" item.

I've now got a great mental image of you chucking your bouquet across the room due to a wasp and all the women in your party leaping up to try and catch it! ?

HAHA we are paying £20 a head for 2 courses, and a further £9 per head for a hog roast in the evening. I regard the LUXURY bit as it being good food sourced from the local farm shop and butchers, and only paying £20 a head for it!

I had the same thought & I don't even wanna do a bouquet toss! I'll say this & it'll still happen as wasps are just annoying anyway. All my wedding video will be is me running around screaming.

Maybe a luxury should be some sort of therapy for me? ?

I said was a big thing at weddings as others have posted about food etc and spending 14500 on food yeah makes that something pretty important.

Not all food is ness a luxury no, but the 'additional' items is what the hog roast comes under.. luxury would then include ice cream carts, fireworks, bands, ice sculptures etc etc

its all the additional things that people are adding to their wedding to make it special to them and if they could have waht they wanted then what would it be... could be food, music etc etc

look really cannot be bothered with arsy posts.. if your really not interested then please dont bother posting

Just wondered, how much does it cost to lob a white pigeon in the air? Genuine question...

So I am completely confused. Having an ice sculpture is a luxury, but spending £150 per head on great food, matched wines, digestifs and cigars is not?

I thought it was an interesting post ? I think luxury is quite personal, same as your budget... We're just having simple chicken too, would love to do something a bit more tasty but just don't have the budget to. Our ice cream trike is our way of having something tasty ?

If that is what you class as a luxury then yes of course it is

Everyone has different opinions on what their luxury items are

You could argue that EVERYTHING at a wedding apart from the legalities is a luxury.

So you pay for your church/registrar costs and all else is flim flam.

Our luxury would be.... Having the venue for the weekend rather than the day, paying extra better food and choosing a different wine to go with each course, having a band, having lots of fresh flowers I know some may see it as a waste but I love them, having an acoustic duo for the drinks reception and a piper to welcome the guests.

I wouldn't class dove releases as luxury, sounds more like cruelty but each to their own I suppose.

In which case, aren't we just talking about what people are doing for their weddings? ?

Well the topic was about that additional things people are having at their weddings so again dependent on your budget will affect what addional/ luxury optional extras you go for...

Clare/MrsM - I think we have similar ideas of how to "lux up" a wedding. My excess budget went on improving what we already had, rather than adding things like ice sculptures.

Bloody hell, does everything have to become a heated debate? It was about luxury. According to all mighty Google, it's defined as extravagant living. In my eyes, the normalities of a wedding in the UK these days aren't extravagant as its what the masses have. So really extravagant would be anything unusual, more expensive, flamboyant etc. so a £70-£150 meal would be luxury, ice sculpture would be luxury and a dove release would be... The fact it's cruel wasn't the topic of the thread and I don't think the OP even realised that this had been discussed. I thought this was quite an unusual post, not really seen luxuries discussed and it's nice to see unusual things or things that people are spending a bit more money on.

It's more than just budget though, I think. We could have had a very different wedding to the one we chose, it wasn't purely about budget. it was about what was important to us, and what we wanted to share with our world. That's so different to simply the financial cost of things.

How can you judge what is "additional" when we have already agreed that almost everything is "additional".
