Adivce Help! What time to get married??

Joanne Slee (to be), 25 September, 2013 at 19:09 Posted on Planning 0 20

I am really struggling to decide what time to get married, our church and venue are right next to each other so there is no time to compensate from getting from each place and we hope to start the speeches and sit down meal for 4pm so i was thinking of getting married at 1pm and then we would be at the reception for drinks and canapes for approx 2pm and then the photographer says to leave 2 hours for photos in between, it just feels a long time to me??

What time are people getting married??

    Hiya

We got married at 1pm, canapes/drinks at 2pm then in for our speeches/meal at 3.30pm. We had half an hour mingling time and an hour getting some pictures taken around the venue.

I would have preferred a 2pm wedding but that time was unavailable on the date we chose, so 1pm it was. I can't remember the timing for everything else though..!

We are getting married at 12noon and then speeches at 5pm and meal 5.30pm

I wanted a good while for pics so once we leave ceremony at 1pm guests can make their way to the reception for 1.30pm then we can be back about 3-3.30pm and mingle with guests before speeches. We are however having a magician and a casino table for guests to keep them entertained.

Our church ceremony is at 2pm then photos at 3ish and we hope to start the meal at half 4. Nibbles and arrival drinks for guests when they arrive at the venue - hopefully not more than a 30/45mins gap between arrival and sitting down for the meal.

Been to a few weddings recently and one had about 3 hours between the ceremony and meal, even after photos. It was a long wait and drinks were really expensive!

Hi I would say you need at least 2 hours for your photographs, they have to be perfect as this will be your memories for years to come, also allows for your guests to mingle too ?

We're having the wedding and reception in the same place so getting married at 2.30 and meal at around 4.15 I think. We haven't allowed too long for photos, to be honest I don't really like the idea of lots of posed photos of us and posed photos of guests we just want pictures of the day that we happen to be in. As long as there's one good shot of uson our own for a frame then I'll be perfectly happy with lots of photos of us and our guests enjoying ourselves.

Ours is all in one place. We have our ceremony at 1, photos and drinks 1:30 - 3:30pm, speeches 3:30-4pm, meal 4pm - 6pm then more drinks til the evening reception starts at 7:30. Guests may end up hammered!

We will be warning people that there will be no food til 4 though so hopefully they'll have a big brekkie!

Argh I couldn't bare photos for more than an hour! I'm like you DreamCatchMe, literally just want one or two decent ones of me and OH and obviously a few nice ones with family but the rest can all be when we're not looking. Deliberately chose our photographer for her informal, reportage style as we didn't want to pose for hours.

We're getting married at 1:30 and I think the meals will be around 4:30 / 4:45..haven't got an exact time from the venue yet still to sort that.
Wanted a 2pm wedding but priest couldn't manage so 1:30 it is, oh well it's more pics and more time for people to mingle..and if we run late there's time to sort things haha.
Having canapés and champagne & a golden eagle dropping in to say hello so hopefully they'll be occupied anyway Smiley smile
Yours sounds fine, it sounds like a long time but it'll be fine and you'll want to make the most of the day and pics too so don't worry Smiley smile

We had a civil ceremony with the reception at the same place and had a 12pm ceremony with the wedding breakfast at 3pm. Evening guests arrived from 6pm.

    Yes Jojo, this sounds great!!!!!!

I, too wondered if this was what she meant Footlong, either mini fry up or a weird way of spelling fries!

Your photographer has given some good advice IMHO. A couple of hours does not mean a couple hours of posed photography. The time allows the guests and you to relax and mingle. That is when some natural images will be taken.

ps...if you need a good DJ, I know of one in your area......
