Adult Learners/Mature Students

Hi

Can you recommend any books/study guides that can help towards imrpoving the way I write reports/assignments/essays? I have had a look in Waterstones today and there seem to be loads. Does anyone have any tried and tested books they can recommend? Especially ways to improve grammar and language use generally!

Thanks for your help

Kerrie

At you at Universiyt full-time or doing it distance learning? I only ask because if your at Uni you can go along to your careers place and they should have some study skills advice. My Uni (Reading) had study skill tutorials advising on how to write essays, exams skills etc etc. I've never been to one myself but as they keep running I assume they're quite good. Also speak to you tutor and see what he/she recommends.

What are you studying at the moment?

FOr a v light-hearte, but useful, look at grammar, try http://www.amazon.co.uk/My-Grammar-Should-That-Old-School/dp/1843173107/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235302779&sr=8-3

And look at this section of the Openlearn website (free Open University materials) http://openlearn.open.ac.uk/course/filter.php?grouping=topic&detail=12&order=level&desc=&perpage=15&page=1

    particularly http://www.open.edu/openlearn/education/learning-how-learn/content-section-0 and http://www.open.edu/openlearn/history-the-arts/culture/literature-and-creative-writing/what-good-writing/content-section-0

Thanks for these peeps. Will have a good look at them all. Essexmum, I am studying part-time at uni however my classes are taught at a satellite college. I'm only 2 weeks on so not sure what other support is available. I will look into this though and see what there is.
