Advance notice for work

Hi all,

How much notice did you give work for having time off for your wedding?

We are not getting married until July 2016, but we are going to take at least 3 weeks off around the wedding for the wedding itself and the honeymoon. I would like to give work as much notice as possible as it I will be off longer than I would be for a normal holiday, but how far in advacne would be best doing this?

    Why not ask your boss or someone in HR how much notice they would need? I think that's what I would do if I was employed. I work for myself so will tell a few clients I'll be away and stick out-of-office on, easy!

    I guess it depends on your work's policy. For my first wedding I took off about 3 weeks and gave them about 6 months notice. This time it won't be an issue.

    Totally depends on your employer and how booking leave works etc. I booked mine last September for next Easter. OH can't book more than 12 months in advance officially but he let his seniors know again last September and did tell the people who book the leave etc. mind even then they did try and say he couldn't have all the time we wanted. Suffice to say a very senior person got involved and he now has the time off. I would say sow the seed now and then remind those that need to be reminded periodically x

    I think I told my boss almost as soon as we'd made our plans, so probably about 10 months notice.

    Thanks guys. Our holiday allowance starts every January and you can only start booking from around the August/September before, i've just looked at the company policy and it says anything over 11 days will be granted in exceptional circumstances (e.g honeymoon) and at least 6 months notice is required. Think I will email the bosses and just let them know the plan and say i've but provisional dates in the diary, but remind them well closer to the time, at least they can't say they haven't been told.

    Hi,

    I'm getting married next May, but our work only issues the holiday forms for the following year just before Christmas, so I asked my Director, he said it was fine I just had to email HR with the dates and they logged them, then when I get my form at the end of the year I'll add them on, it's depressing though as I only have 3 days left to take next year Smiley sad

    Actually this is good question.

    I even did not think about it yet.

    But should. I will just go to HR and ask them. Probably you need to give same notice as to your ussual holiday.

    but im sure they will understand it.

    I know what you mean, i'm already having to save 5 days holiday from next years allowance to cary them over to 2016 so as much as I'll have loads then I wont next year, but ah well. It'll be worth it in the end.
