I'm new at this, we only got engaged last Saturday. WE would both like to get married in November of this year, do you think that's a little ambitious?!

1st of all congratulations and welcome to hitched ?

Have you both decided what type of wedding you want, i.e, church / civil?

Thank you and thank you! It's been a fab week! Although we had discussed it briefly a number of times when he asked it was quite the suprise! All systems go now and great that he's been so involved (so far) too! x

P.S. My life saving wedding planning advise it to draft up a spreadsheet maybe in Excel that way you can keep track of your budget and what you still need to do x

Thanks! I've started a note book of ideas and listing everything that I think we have to do, but am learning something new everyday! We have civil venue visits (not a church for us unfortunately) over the next week and once we have chosen and booked I hope to start on the pretty bits, like colour schemes, invitations, favours, oh and my dress! I have three dress shop appointments, starting the week after next! We've worked out our budget and I've started to list what the other bits, suits, flowers, insurance, certs, wedding bands, etc etc. My other half has found a good wedding budget programme so he's starting to input info into that. Do you think there is anything else I should be doing right now?!

Get your photographer sorted as soon as you can! Then florist if you are using one.

I think we have a photographer sorted. I've heard wedding flowers are pretty expensive. I don't want anything too extravagant but defo at least bouquets for me, my two bridesmaids, petal baskets for my two flowers girls and button holes for just the groom, best man and my father perhaps. They tell me the average wedding is between 15 and 18k and the average bride takes about 4 months to choose her dress, this makes me panic a little! x

Hi I had less time to plan. I got engaged april and married Oct. Its more than enough time... the beauty is that in wedding terms you are last minute. we got £2k off ours and free flowing wine thrown in.

If you barter then you will find you will get a good deal. The venus will know that they will probably not get another booking so will do a good discount.

The only problem that I found was the time of the registrar. There was only two times left for the 8th Oct 12.00 or 15.30. I really wanted to get married at 14.00 but was unable to as there was no other times. We went for 15.30 as we felt any earlier is far too much of a long day for our guests.

Enjoy your planning. I loved every minute of it. Ignore people who says its stressful...its the most enjoyable experience of your life. How can you have stress looking at beautiful things? I just wish I could do it all over again... xxx

Thank you! We hope to have the venue/registra booked by the end of next week. I'm loving every moment of the planning stages at the moment, and get carried away hopping from one website to the next! So important point number two after venue/registra etc is dress, right, great thanks! How exciting! On average what does a general photograph package cost? We are "in talks" with ours at the mo, he is a fanily friend who is trained in photography but if budget allows we may consider getting someone else.x

Although the cost can be true, a perfectly good wedding can be had for a lot less than that if you do some shopping around.

We've got 55 for the wedding breakfast and 120 for the evening reception and our whole day is currently about 8k.

It may take 4 months to choose a dress - but the bigger thing is that unless it's an "off the shelf" dress that you can pay for and take home, some places can take 6 months just to deliver the dress to your wedding shop, so that's something you do need to sort pretty soon if you're going for November.

Remember also to book a registrar before you confirm with your hotel - they should be able to provisionally hold you a date for a few days whilst you get hold of the registrars.

My Tog came in at just over £1000, that was for a full day / Disc with around 800 photos and 20 prints of our choice.

What I found from other Tog's we got quotes from was that they were trying to sway us into having the books at £400 a go. They are lovely but as we would want 3 they were not in our budget x

P.S have heard cars get booked up quick too x

    Welcome to Hitched!

You sound like you are well underway with your planning so the timescale should be no problem and as others have said, November should be easier from an availability point of view.

Look forward to hearing more about your planning.

Hey- we only got engaged 6 weeks ago and we are getting married 31st July this year, weekend in peak time at a highly desirable venue. We have found with the recession lots of people have put off wedding so lots of suppliers have become free. We have also generally planned everything already, i even pick the dress up next week. Good luck and haggle as you are last minute! x

Definitely do-able but probably worth getting cracking on the dress asap as the less time you have for that the more the options get limited. Congratulations and welcome to the hectic, sometimes stressful but mostly fun world of wedding planning! x

Doable if you can get the Registrar & Venue, November is believe it or not quite a busy Month. Start booking suppliers asap as weddings are no longer just the summer season they are all year round so there is no quiet time.
