Advice about hair & makeup trial - moisturisers

bananacatdance, 6 April, 2016 at 18:16 Posted on Planning 0 11

So the advice that my hair and makeup artist gave me yesterday was that I need to use a more intensive hydrating moisturiser as my skin is sensitive but quite dry in places. I currently just use a standard Garnier day cream & Nivea night cream. She recommended Dermalogica but I've just looked and they cost about £40 each. This is a bit steeper than I was hoping for! I wondered if anyone had any good recommendations for hydrating moisturisers that work well but more around the £20-£30 mark? x x

I've used clarins, Clinique, Lancôme and Chanel over the years but have gone back to no 7 From boots. Worked great for me in the run up to the wedding I especially liked the youthful eye cream. Often on 3 for 2 so makes it quite reasonable. I have sensitive dry skin too.

You need more than just a moisturiser, that just acts as a coat for your skin. It's their to protect and shield it and also provide moisturiser. I'd recommend spending money on a good cleanser and serum vs moisturiser. Serums especially contain better and more powerful ingredients. Check out QVC, they are really good for doing fantastic skincare brands for cheaper prices. They normally do sets and say like 4 full size items are normally the price of just buying one from an other retailer. I have been using this and love it http://www.qvcuk.com/Judith-Williams-Phytomineral-4-Piece-Cleanse-&-Hydrate-Collection.product.208721.html?cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-9-_-208721

The moisturiser is super hydrating and I have dry but sensitive skin and it's a huge huge pot, most moisturisers are about 50ml but this is 150ml, you get 4 items for under £30 can't argue with that. Plus you can return it within 30 days for free refund even used if you don't like it.

I had this same problem I'm now doing a 4 step routine I double cleanse with asda nspa foaming wash and hot cloth polish followed by superdrug vitamin e facial oil and naturally radiant night cream and in the morning I use superdrug vitamin e day cream. My skin has improved so much since doing this. If you have a good budget go to your local keihls counter and get your skin assessed I'm wanting to do this but the moisturisers are about 25 a pop so need to finish what I've got first!

I have dry skin and the only thing that works for me is the No 7 anti wrinkle moisturiser. The blue/green one. I use the day cream under makeup and night cream before bed.

    I love it Smiley smile

Clinique moisture surge is really good. Feels light on your skin but great for dry skin.

I double cleanse at night with the Liz Earle cleanse and polish. I use a variety of serums but a current fave is Nip+Fab viper venom serum, Kheil's midnight recovery eye cream, some facial oil and Aldi's caviar night cream which I am absolutely loving! My skin is looking great at the moment, it's prone to being quite spotty and dull. It doesn't help that I wear a lot of make up during the day.

    Hello,

I would also highly recommend Dermalogica products.

I know they seem expensive, but one tube of moisturiser lasts me 6 months, which is pretty good going considering I use it once or twice a day.

Hi again all. I went with the Boots no 7 range - they do a day and night cream specifically for dry/very dry skin which I didn't know and have used it today and it felt really rich and lovely. Also bought their intense hydrating eye cream (the 3 for 2 deal helped with cost, thanks for the heads up about that!) and a gentler facial cleanser - was using a scrub that my hair and makeup artist said probably wasn't doing me any favours. It says "noticeable results within 2 weeks" so if I don't notice much in the next month or so I will probably plump for something more expensive like the dermalogica/clinique. Thanks again for some really good advice!
