Advice for blinging shoes - i'm being so indecisive!

DrBuffles, 9 June, 2014 at 14:58 Posted on Planning 0 3

Has anyone blinged up their shoes using crystals? My friend is making mine (shoes) and I spent ages trying to source little sew on crystals like the ones in the attached picture. I couldn;t find them anywhere and even contacted Swarovski directly as I have dealings with them through work. They couldn't help me so I gave up on that route. I started looking at normal shaped crystals and they do a solid white. I was concerned as my dress is ivory, albeit light ivory but I was still concerned it would be a bit stark in comparison. I searched some more and found some more crystals that I thought were white - and were cheaper than swarovski so I ordered some of them. They arrived and were a slightly ivory shade. Amazing I thought, this is just what I need. I ordered some more in different sizes and they arrived looking all sorts of horrid shades of yellow. I called the supplier and they said this is a new batch and is what they are. Ok so I need to send them back and I'm back to square one.

I contacted swarovski again about ordering some of the white crystals but they aren't cheap and only come in packs of 1440 per size. I'm faffing about because I don't want to commit!! The shoes will be nude leather with what was going to be Ivory tulle over the top but I'm not thinking white will look better with the white crystals?? I have to pick them up from London which is nowhere near so would have to ask someone to do me a favour so i want to be sure of what I'm ordering.

Has anyone ever covered a pair of shoes in crystals? How many did you use?

Should I stop obsessing over where white/ivory thing and let them be their own entity and get the white?

This is the inspiration pic. I think I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed as time is running away from me at the mo and people keep arranging things to take up my weekends!!

Im blinging my wedding shoes! I'm also a shoe fanatic and I HATE typical wedding shoes. I think im using 3mm gems and will probably use near 3000 per shoe! You use more than you think lol. These are mine so far:

Can't offer any advice on the actual blinding of your shoes but I have a question which may help with the colour obsessing - is your dress going to cover your shoes? If yes and people will only see them if you give them a flash I would go with the white - decision made, move on to your next job (I know you are getting stressed about how much you have to do).

On the other hand if your shoes are going to be on view - a lot, it might be worth another search for ivory, but set yourself a time limit and if you haven't found any by then - go for the white. No-one is going to complain that your shoe crystals don't exactly match your dress. (If they do then - seriously!!!)

Thanks for the help on quantity. I think I'm going to order some more.

I made my decision after a long time of laying things on top of each other and umming and ahhing! I only had one white crystal which was making it hard.

I've decided to go for the ivory but not use the largest size as these are the ones that are really yellow. I think the white would look so stark in comparison as my dress is long but it's not poofy so a good chance they will be seen a fair bit.

I've made one of the bows now and started blinging and i'm really pleased with it. The shoe in the pic is the mock up to check for fit so that's why it's a weird colour. In reality it will be the same as the bow with a baby blue lining for my something blue.

Phew. Decision made! I don't think they will look that close to the originals but I'm not worried anymore!
