Advice needed on how to do our own music

danielle34570, 9 June, 2013 at 13:35 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi All,

I'm getting married in Italy in a few weeks and we have 25 guests coming with us. When we get back to the UK we'll be having a big party and have a DJ hired for that but it seemed a bit overkill to hire a DJ for 27 of us in Italy so we've hired the equipment and will be providing our own music.

We're putting the playlist together at the moment but wondered if any of you are able to offer recommendations on the best way to do this? Is it do just run a playlist through an ipod, use spotify or is there a recommended app for it?

Thanks,

Danielle

    Hiya!

We're getting married aborad and our doing the music ourself too. If you make a playlist through your ipod some tunes might play at different volumes so you'd have to sort the levels out on them before hand (if you are fussed, most reent tracks will be recorded similarly). With spotify you can stick a cross fade on so there are no gaps between tunes, shuffle a playlist or structure it to different stages of the party. You can also take requests of stuff you haven't added to your playlist. Pay for the 24 hour subsritption so there are no adverts.

Only downside with using spotify in my opinion is if it's easily accessible to all your guests and some drunk uncle gets hold of it and you are force fed status quo till someone can wrestle him off it!

    Good Luck!

There is also a way to do the cross fade thing on iTunes as we did this for my 30th and my dad's 65th. You can choose 10 seconds or whatever so that there are no awkward gaps between songs. I uploaded all our favourite songs from discs onto iTunes and then arranged the playlist in the order that I thought the night would go so it could just be left and it worked quite well but it did take away the spontaneity a bit. Could someone musical be roped into keeping an eye on it and changing the running order to respond to the crowd? My 30th finished a bit earlier than I planned and it was a bit sad to hear all the big party tunes I had saved for the end of the night just playing away to themselves as we cleaned up!

I think there are specific Apps you can download for this and separate music for different parts of the day. I must admit i havent looked into it a lot but i think it will get rid of any gaps for you.

In Itunes you can set up different playlist and just add the tracks in the order you wish them to be played.

There's also sites such as https://www.fitmixpro.com/music/howto (that was featured on dragon den) that will complete a mix of your chosen tracks.
