Advice needed.......doing my own bridal makeup

Samantha2704, 27 January, 2011 at 22:11 Posted on Planning 0 14

Ok, so i've called just about every salon/beauticians in the area and noone seems to do, or there not interested in doing my bridal makeup! ive left messages at 3 different salons and had no response.....Anyway, i'm starting to consider doing my own makeup and really need some advice and any makeup recommendations and tips like how to prepare my skin, should i invest in a primer etc etc....

I'm not brilliant with makeup, i dont tend to wear much foundation as for some reason i always seem to buy the wrong colours but hopefully practice makes perfect! :-D

If you go to a Mac in a department store or actual shop then they will do it for you think its £40 for the make over but you can redeem this back against products so if you want some stuff to top up during the day spend the whole £40 and then they done your make up for free only thing is you would need to go in the morning of your wedding and you will need an appointment in advance but these girls are all proffessionally trained Artists. Either that or do one just before the wedding and get them to talk you through it xx

My Friend done this and her make up was FAB!!!

Someone did recommend MAC but the only problem is the distance, and 4 of us need our makeup doing....plus we all need to go to a salon to have our hair done and the weddings at 1:30 so dont want to be rushing around like mad! thanks for the idea though! xx

    Hi Samantha,

I know lots of hair and make up artists in your area.

I know what you mean about the saloons in your area, they dont seem to want to come out to you on the day.

My advise to you if you are not confident with make up, get a proffesssional make artist in, you want to feel special on your wedding day.

just give me a call, I will point you in the right direction?

    Elizabeth

Have a look on youtube at the makeup tutorials. Theres some really good ones on there and take your time. I'm doing my own makeup (my trial is on another thread on here with flashes)

This woman is brilliant, and you could adapt what she does with a brightness etc that works for you: https://www.youtube.com/user/MissChievous

Thanks Elizabeth, could i email you instead....im not a phone person hehe....

I've gotten really frustrated with the hairdressers as well because as you say, no one seems interested about coming to my house (my photographer wants to take pictures of me getting ready, hair and makeup being one of them!)

When my friend got married a while back she visited lots of the big make up counters in department stores, got lots of free make-overs and tips and did a great job on her own on the actual day. She tried lots of the big brands and none of them charged her.

I looked up a smokey style makeup for mine, and she does them step by step and advises you on colours and primers etc.

It's always good to play about with colours and techniques. Just take your time and keep it light, like someone told me today...if you don't like it...wipe off and start again Smiley smile xx

Hi Samantha. I'm no professional make up artists, but I am completely obsessed with make up and good at applying it (not trying to boast-just had lots of practice!!). MissUnderstood's YouTube suggestion is a really good one - there's demos of any style on there, but if you have any questions or would like any advice or product recommendations just send me a message and I'd be more than happy to help. I love make up and do the full works everyday (even if I'm not leaving the house hehe!) Lucy x
