Not myself but a few people we know have had these breeds. They are ALOT of hard work, even for experienced dog owners. If you can assert your dominance and they know whos top of the pack they are great dogs. Out of all the couples who have had them it's always the women that have struggled. They have been fine with the men, probably because men are more dominant, but have run riot with the women. Of course it depends how you are personally.

They also need a LOT of exercise, or again, will become restless and possibly boisterous. As an example my friend and husband worked full time jobs. Their Alaskan malamute had long periods alone and some of the things he managed were to completely relandscape the garden several holes dug, opened the tumble dryer door (?) and shred all the clothes, jump the baby gate and run riot in the house. Unfortunately they couldn't cope and had to get rid, but my point is you have to understand the dog and take responsibility. But if you can, they're are great. Hope that helps.

As a vet I see a lot of these dogs with problems. Usually when they come in the owners can't handle them. They are either extremely nervous or aggresive. They need someone who can handle them efficiently who has experience with behavioural issues. Being an experienced dog owner is not enough. They are also very intelligent animals so need a lot of stimulation. I don't think they are the kind of dog that can be left alone during the day otherwise they will wreck things, as Missus S says.

These are not dog breeds that I would recommend to anyone who doesn't have a lot of experience with dogs.

Why have you chosen these two breeds?

Do you both work full time?

    Have you owned dogs before?

    Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks for all the advice girls Smiley smile its really helped!

Kharv don't be silly about asking questions that's what I've been doing ha ha.

Move been brought up my hole life around dogs...big dogs and y dad always made sure me and my sister were involved in training classes to make sure the dog listened to us aswell. They had 4 at one point when I was 19 and it was myself and my sister who had to train them I.e toilet training, going to classes, taking them out. Dad also wanted them to be work dogs so we trained them to the whistle which again me and my sister had to do with him.

Yes myself and oh both work full time but I work full time from home so would be home all the time with it other wise we wouldn't of considered a dog at all as I don't think it's fair. I know a couple of people who have Akitas and work 8 hours a day and they are fine on there home and neither have had problems but I just don't think it's fair. I have asked both of them who typically said yea get one but I wanted to write it in here to get an outsiders advice, atleast that way I'll get complete honesty!!

Thanks a lot girls Smiley smile
