Advice on doing your own wedding makeup please!

HollyHavisham, 31 March, 2019 at 22:49 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi all!

I'm planning to do my own wedding make up as I definitely feel more comfortable doing my own than having someone plaster me in products I never normally wear.

I've been watching videos on Youtube but they all seem to be the caked on with a trowel sort of style which I am not looking for!

Has anyone got any advice on what products were the best etc? I'm starting to try out different products and am planning on having a few make up trials at Benefit counters etc to get some ideas but I'd love to hear from the ladies out there who have done their own make up already!

I find that most of the professional wedding makeup artists use MAC.

If you're good at doing makeup then go for it! Just avoid brands that have reflective powders in them.

    Hi

Although I'm not a pro makeup artist, I am a self confessed beauty addict and have done bridal makeup for a number of my friends.

Firstly I would recommend trying a whole bunch of foundations as what may be perfect for one person could be a nightmare for you. It all depends on what skin type you are and what kind of coverage you want. I have quite oily skin so prefer a matte foundation but an oil based foundation will be best if you have normal/dry skin.

My favourite foundation for bridal looks would be Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. It's super natural and doesn't feel cakey. You can also build it for more coverage if needed.

I would personally recommend you go to Debenhams and ask all beauty counters for a sample of their foundation in your shade so you can try them at home. Trial each one until you find one that wears well on you and most importantly lasts all day!

One thing though, avoid foundations which contain SPF as this causes flashback on photos.

If you have a certain look in mind, you can book a makeup lesson at Mac and they will show you exactly what you need to do in order to achieve that look.

Sorry to ramble on so much, I could talk about makeup all day!

    Good luck!
