Advice please!!

smazzy_smoo, 30 January, 2012 at 20:55 Posted on Planning 0 8

I'm getting married in June 2014, and so far have just booked the church and been to one wedding fayre. I spend so much time on here now that I'm getting really tempted to look at wedding dresses. Would it be a bad idea if I just started looking now? I'm not going to buy anything yet, because knowing my luck I'll end up putting on a stone before the wedding!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I would say it depends how much your body shape changes as your weight changes and how easily you fall in love with stuff. If you body shape changes then even the shape of dress so shopping now won't answer questions. If your practical and you can just go and enjoy the experience then do it - but as the dresses may go discontinued if you are a fall in love and nothing will add up I may not risk it.

Sorry if that is not a lot of help Smiley smile

I think I only want to go now for the experience because I'm so excited, haha. I don't think I'd get that attached to any particular dress, as I know the likelihood will be that it won't be around when I'm actually buying one. I also want to go to take my Mum to look. She's fighting cancer at the minute so anything to do with the wedding is a great way of taking her mind off things.

But of course, I'm looking forward to trying some on and feeling like a princess ?

I think I'm going to wait until my best friend comes to stay with us in a few months. She lives in Leeds and is going to be my MOH (although she doesn't know that yet!), so it'd be nice for us and my Mum to go together while she's here. I promise I won't buy anything though!!!

I started tryin on in 2010 for my 2012 wedding, tried about 50 dresses but bought one of the first dresses i tried on as nothing compared to it. It was bought in 2010 and i haven't been tempted to try on/look at/buy any other dress. I'm so glad i tried on and bought when i did because i might never ave seen that dress if i'd ave waited! And its my dream dress.

I woudn't look now unless you have the funds in place to actually buy one. I did this 18 months before my wedding, and fell in love with the first dress I tried on, there was no way I was walking out of the shop without it. Fortunately for me my mum was with me and we paid quite a large deposit because of the discount I got on it. I didnt think in a million years I would walk out owning a dress, the object was to try and get an idea of what style suited me!

Do it, do it, do it! It's so much fun!! And thats coming from a rather no 'girly' girl ?

In my opinion, there is no harm in getting a head start in understanding what styles suit you / you like etc. It's a minefield and I was surprised at which styles I liked when I tried them on and which I didn't like!

    Enjoy!!

Smazzy_smoo I say do it! Lol, I'm also a 2014 bride and only the other week asked everyone on here if I should go and try dresses on. I agree with all the different views everyone has on here but I'm sure there is no harm in trying some on.

I was meant to be going to try dresses on for the first time this Friday... however my sister (also MOH) is messing me about with dates and other commitments so I'm going to go with just my Mum instead.

    Good Luck!
