ashlil, 23 January, 2010 at 17:35 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi

I am getting married 2nd time for me (civil ceremony), and I had the big white wedding 1st time 15 years ago and my Dad gave me away then as traditional.

Who can give you away the 2nd time? does anybody have to at all?

can you have your dad again?? or a brother? or friend

any advice please

thanks

I was wondering the same kind of question. Not because I've been married before, but because I have no father or father figure, so have no idea who would walk me down the aisle..
I'd quite happily do it alone, but apparently that's not allowed?

I was at my venue last weekend and she asked me if I was walking down the aisle alone! I think you can have whoever you like these days, dont you want to ask your dad this time? (sorry that sounds nosey!!)

I'm gonna be clinging on to my dad for support ...physical support in mental heels!!

You can have anyone you want giving you away, a friend of mine got married 5 years ago and since she didn't know her dad then her mum gave her away.

H2b's neice who got married 3 years ago (who sadly died the following year after finding out after her honeymoon she had leukaemia) was given away by h2b's son as she hadn't seen her dad in years.

I'm having my best (male) friend but you can have whoever you want (or no-one at all) as the others have said.

If that's the case I think I'll walk it alone.

Hopefully no one will see that as tragic!

Felicity I don't think its tragic at all, its very independent of you. I'm making sure that my friend is 'escorting me' not 'giving me away'!
