Advice pls re:nails

CharleeA, 29 March, 2013 at 06:53 Posted on Planning 0 7

I'm getting my nails done for the wedding (8 days to go - eeekkkk!!!) and I've never had them done before but thought that I would treat myself. I've got a lovely lady to come to the house but she sent me as message asking what I want and I haven't a clue?? Does anyone get acrylic nails done regularly? This is the message she sent me:

yes I could do them for you, what colour acrylics are you wanting? If you just want white normal acrylic nails there £14, for colour nails there £16, natural clear £18 and full nails £20, and congratulations Smiley smile x

What's the difference? Am I being thick?? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm on such a tight budget I don't want to spend £20 if I can get the same thing for &14!

baffled.com lol!!!!! X

    Hi hun,

I'm a nail tech but I dont understand her pricing tbh. White, coloured or clear just refers to the tip colour & I have no idea what she means by 'full nails'.I dont see why it would be different prices for the different coours. I would ask her to clarify what she means. Also, that is awfully cheap for acrylics, so try & see some pics of her work before you book her.

What do you want doing with your nails? Do you want a french look? if so you want white tips. I would look at google images for wedding nails & see what you like. You can the send her the pic.

    xx

Cath, I think it depends on where you live, that's quite a normal price round here although admittedly at the lower end but she is mobile.

My acrylics are £25.00 whether I have white tips or colour- this is at a nail place tho.

I agree on getting a picture and sending it her- no confusion that way.

Edit: I normally have clear and then colour painted on

I am by no means an expert but over the years I have tried all kinds of nail techniques and acrylics are the type I would avoid - particularly if you don't normally get your nails done. If you're getting them done on a regular basis then it's not as bad, although gel is a much better option.

However, if it's simply for your wedding and not add length, then I highly suggest you look at a shellac manicure. My friend owns a beauty salon and shellac has become increasingly popular! It's also not damaging to your nails (unlike acrylic), is long-lasting and keeps your nails strong.

I'd second that... I don't know much about shellac but gelish seems much kinder to your real nails and beds than acrylics. Alot of nail techs prefer it to acrylics nowadays too- I'm over t'other side of t'pennines and around twenty is the norm for mobile techs xx

I third this! I have clear tips and french look using white and soft pink acrylic. My personal favourite is acrylic but for longer term wear and I do agree they are not kind to your natural nails, it takes a good few weeks to get my natural nails back to a healthy looking state after taking a break from acrylics and having them off. I have tried all sorts and find gel to have a nice finish and can be made to look more natural but not as strong as acrylic. As Butterfly has already said, if this is just for your wedding so not for particularly extended wear or to add length then Shellac is great and much kinder to your natural nails. It can last up to a couple of weeks if well looked after too ?

Shellac was definitely not kind to my nails! I found it almost as harsh as acrylics and the disadvantage is that you can't add length.

I'm considering stick on nails (ie the ones you get from Boots etc) just for the day. There are some really good ones now and I'm working through the brands to see which are best. So far I like Broadway.
