Advice/opinions on table set up

lisaanne, 8 January, 2012 at 12:29 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi all

I am trying to decide on table centres etc but I'm having trouble visualising whether my idea will look any good! Basically for the table centre I want to get some white buckets like these: http://shop.confetti.co.uk/product/white-broderie-anglaise-pail-centrepiece/69974/ and each bucket to have a purple flowering plant in it, then name the tables after the plant in the centre. I am then going to stick these http://shop.confetti.co.uk/product/white-chalkboard-signs-5-pack/104636/ into the plant with the plant name/table name written on it.

Then I would also have my favours on the tables which are going to be small clear glass jars filled with green and purple jelly beans, tied with ribbon and a ivory luggage tag with the person's name on, acting as a name place.

The venue are putting white table cloths on the tables then the rest is up to us. So what are your thoughts? Will the tables look really empty?

I'm worried about the white bucket on the white table cloth getting lost too, I just can't picture how it will all look!

Any thoughts welcome!

You could break the white up with something underneath the bucket? Like a doily type thing to match the cut outs on the bucket, you could get them in purple to match?

also in ikea they had buckets (but they were flower pots) exactly the same style but a little taller and they were less than £5.99. Just to bear in mind.

I think it all sounds lovely! The only comment I would make is the same as Big Apple - I think those particular vases will be a bit small. I would aim to find a larger receptacle for the plant. The one above is very nice.

You could put something under the pot. And like Apple I'd go for something vintage/natural rather than something like a mirror plate.

I'm thinking about getting those ikea ones. They look really nice in the flesh too.

Could you add some purple table crystals just to add a bit more detail?

I think that sounds really nice. I'm just having clear glass vases of flowers on the tables and thought that might just get lost, but I found a vintage company and am hiring some large cream lace doilies for them to stand on. Think something similar could work really well on yours, as others have suggested.

Thanks guys, now you've said it I agree that something under the pot would be good. Maybe a purple table runner would look good. I think I might do as suggested and do a mock up table, see how it looks!

I had white lanterns on white tables, small 8" mirror plates underneath and turquoise scatter crystals.

I also thought this wouldn't be enough and that all the white would just blend in, but once you also add table names, place names, favours, glasses, cutlery, salt and pepper pots and wine buckets... it soon fills up!!

As others have said, do a mock up on your dining table (or like me on the next visit to the venue - take a centrepiece with you to see how it looks!!!)

Love the bucket idea, to go underneath if a doily is to small why not match some card at a craft show and do some homemade doily's like making a snowflake effect.

Love the Ikea ones and they're only £2.99, Confetti are a rip off on lots of things! Just found out that a trade site sells packs of 5 of the chalk boards for £4, and Confetti charges £15! Wish I had my own business so I could apply for a trade account with that site!

Don't suppose any HIBs have a trade account with CSC imports?
