Affordable Wedding around Berkshire?

maidenheadgirl, 30 March, 2012 at 15:42 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi All, I got engaged in Oct 2011 and finally getting my act together to organise our wedding in may 2013. I am really struggling to find a small but quaint country house/hotel with a reasonable package inc accomodation around the Berkshire Buckinghamshire area! Anyone find something reasonable below £3000 just for the venue/catering/package inc the bridal suite around the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire area? I am really tempted by some of the gorgeous places in the Cotswolds for example but I know someone who got married recently who really struggled to get people to come out to the wedding due to distance and mainly cost ;( Any ideas on venues girls?

I live in West Bekshire and an geetin married on the Hampshire/Berkshire border at Esseborne Manor: http://www.esseborne-manor.co.uk/index-5.html we actually went to write off as there isnt much on the website and their proces were extremly reasonable. ''Weddings can be held any day of the week and prices start from £76 per guest for a wedding ceremony, drinks on the lawn with your photographer, a 3 course lunch with wine and champagne, and an evening barbecue or finger buffet''

We got there and its gorgeous, quaint and very family driven. We get married in 7 weeks and they have been excellent in the whole process and they are such a bargain too. We are having 60 to the day and extra 65 at night, our room, 3 course dinner with tea and coffee, half a bottle of wine with dinner, glass of fizz on the lawn, champers tost and evening bbq for 75% of guest and it has come in at £5k.

    HI Maidenhead girl,

I'm also based in Maidenhead and have just done LOADS of research into venues around the Bucks / Berks area.

It will depend on how many people and whether you would consider staying elsewhere.

Have a look at Lillibrooke Manor and the Mill House hotel

We have booked ours at Bisham Abbey but it's closer to £10k but that's mainly down to number of people and extra options.

    Good Luck! x

Oh and our room for the night is included in the price. They have 19 room that can sleep up to 4 people per room.

How many people do you want there? I'm getting married at the berystede hotel in ascot, 70-80 people during the day and 20 or so more in the evening. For a three course meal, evening buffet, bridal suite, drinks and a few other things it will come to around 5-6k. This is because I booked within 6 months but they have a couple of different packages and deals. It's a really nice hotel and the food is fantastic! Our wedding planner there has been really good so far too.

    Hi Trouble.

Mill House brochure just came through the door this morning Smiley winking planing to visit next weekend. Oh wish I had £10k but as I have to include family from abroad and elsewhere in UK and all the other bits I need to keep the cost of the venue itself lower. Hope you have a wonderful day! When is your day? ?

    Hi Nica

I think the standard 60 for the morning and 80 for the evening would suffice really.

What really gets me about these places is that booking a year ahead doesn't give you much of a discount wherelse they are doing deals now for the next 6-8 months.

H2B is not keen on anything this year as we've had some unexpected expenses Smiley sad.

I'm very local to Maidenhead! I got married at Grovefield House in Burnham a year ago and couldn't fault them. We got a great package which came in at £3000 and included all venue and catering costs for 60 in the day and 100 evening guests.

Give me a shout if you need recs for any other local suppliers!

    Hi Stripey!

First of all....congrats!!!!! On both the wedding and I see your ticker stays you are pregnant!! Such good news Smiley winking

I have heard great things about Grovefield House and have an appointment next week actually to view. How did you get the package at £3000? It looks much more at the moment. May need loads of help with local suppliers for sure ;()

We did get married in February and they do a fantastic winter offer. If you were prepared to move your date to March then they do a similar offer every year for Jan-March, I think for 2012 it went up to £3200. Talk to them though as I'm sure they could negotiate. Plus a lot of the standard packages have extras in which you could perhaps take and bring the price down.

I stumbled across the venue by accident and I'm so glad I did as they were really fantastic. Stacey the wedding coordinator there was fantastic, always responded promptly to anything and really couldn't do enough to help us. The Operations Manager there James is also fab and he DJs so we booked him for the evening do. The staff on the day were lovely, the day ran so smoothly and I attribute that 100% to them (and my excellent planning of course ?). They are listed in the supplier directory on here, and if you have a look through the reviews, I think the email I sent after the day is on there.

Found the link to my Wedding Report, tons of flashes in there to give you a feel for the day and the venue. We liked it because it was elegant without being over the top: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/p/230640/2242506.aspx#2242506

The whole day cost us around £7000 and with the exception of my flowers all the suppliers were local to Maidenhead.

Don't know about any of the others MHG but I grew up down the road from Cantley House hotel and would strongly recommend it - know lots of people who have got married there, and have been to several weddings there and everyone's been pleased. My parents had their wedding anniversary party there a few years ago and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Let us know how you get on!

So update – I was hugely dissapointed with Wokefield park where the wedding coordinator was 25mins late for our appointment and not what i would call, personable in anyway. The venue being a De Vere venue was not very classy with the awful carpets and conference like reeption area. The actual room itself in the mansion was not too bad but it all depends on what you like/need. But decided not for us. We also went to Taplow House – I like the venue interior but the exterior was not very impressive although the grounds was nice. The put off for me was that they do not have lifts in the hotel which means the bridal suite is right on top of the building with every steep and narrow stairs. The price was also not very flexible and the package was not as value for money as you’d have to take out alot of extras which are not included. I have Burnham Beeches and the Berkshire Agriculture College to check out next weekend but i think I am in love with Grovefield Park even though its top end of our budget! At our second visit to the hotel over the weekend, I got all very tingle and excited!! I love the venue, the staff were lovely and the atmosphere is exactly what I wanted! It would be lovelier if the gardens were slightly better landscaped for photos but still pretty enough. I wanted to provisionally book the date but H2B wants to wait until we see the other places first! I already know we won’t be as enthusiastic about the other places as this one but I understand we shouldnt rush in! But....excited nonetheless!

I wouldn't recommend BCA - they couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery and would not trust them with a wedding.

I've heard mixed reviews about them. Its okay venue from outside but the overall price comes up to what I would pay for a package in hotel with accomodation anyway which I prefer as it cuts the cost of having to hire car/logistics etc

    Hiya Stripey

LOL! I know I love it but just got quote from them and slightly miffed that the revised quote is MORE than what was discussed on Saturday. She said she'd get back to me by this afternoon with better pricing but hasn't. H2B said I shouldn't get too attached until its all B&W but can't help it. I didn't get that tingly feeling with the other places ;( but at the same time I don't want to be short changed.

The extras which they conveniently left out of their packages - chair covers, evening buffet. civil ceremony room hire etc are about £2,200 more plus they are charging us £500 extra for not meeting their min number ....80 people for the day!

Am crossing fingers and toes this week!! I want this part to be done so I can start on the fun stuff!

Haveli in Stoke Poges, fantastic venue! I had one of my wedding receptions there 5 years ago and we loved it.
