After all my dress trouble, I've decided to have 2 dresses!

Missdanih85, 28 November, 2013 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 15

Some of you may have read my post regarding buying a dress I then decided against. I have since purchased Sophia Tolli Osha and am in love with it! I am also in love with chiffon dresses and after trying on Jacee by Maggie Sottero I loved it but decided on Osha because it suited my venue more. However I can't get it out of my head and I have found a sample of it for £300 so decided to buy it to wear in the evening! My Osha dress was £600 under budget so it hasn't changed anything there at all. Do you think I'm crazy?!

It's really up to you, but this is how I would think of it. I would personally want to wear 1 wedding dress all day to make the most of it and I would put the other £300 towards something else. £300 for a second dress is quite a lot, but I guess it depends how many hours of use you'll get from it in the evening? Do you think it's enough to justify buying another dress? It's hard enough to feel justified spending on 1 dress let alone 2.

Also you'll end up with 2 dress you'll never wear again and may struggle to sell on depending on what your plans are regarding the wedding dress (s) after the wedding.

    A tad, yes.

It's a dress you will be wearing for a few hours... A wedding doesn't generally require an outfit change. Plus, it won't be the dress you got married in, it'll be a "party frock" basically...

Sounds like you are going to get it even if we tell you you are!

What time is your wedding? realistically how long are you going to be wearing each frock for? They are both lovely dresses but personally if it was me I would want either a very drastic change of look (a short dress for example) or I'd be saving that money for the honeymoon.

I not sure I would trust myself to change on the actual day when I was having fun and feeling fab in the first dress so then the second would be a waste of money.

I don't really understand having two dresses even if one is cheaper than it should be.

Also things to think about, will you need different underwear/shoes/jewellery etc with a dress change too?

It's only one day, surely you just want one dress you feel amazing in to wear all day? Also agree with Dr Buffles that I'm not sure I'd have found the time/remember to get changed!

I love my dress so much no way I would be taking it off to change into another... Plus I wouldn't want to leave my guest to go get changed!

i personally would have used that money to splash out on a fab pair of shoes!

i agree with the person who said if you are going to change dress it should be a drastic change from original dress! Most women who change tend to do so for comfort rather than just wanting to wear two dresses because they couldn't decide!

I think if I was a guest at the wedding and it wasn't a drastic or comfort change I would be thinking "I love me, who do you love." Lol but it's really up to you!

I don't want to be negative but I have to agree that even if it is under-budget it's a lot to spend and I think that money could be spent elsewhere e.g. put behind the bar for more drinks for guests or if you want to spend it on clothes why not buy a lovely outfit to wear on honeymoon or some nice underwear? Both dresses you have found are lovely but if it was me I would try to decide on one.

I think it's a bit weird and your guests might be a bit baffled. I get changing into a more comfortable/shorter dress for dancing but to change into another full length wedding gown is just a bit bonkers. ? Surely the £300 would be better spent elsewhere? What does your partner think?

I changed my dress at about 10pm to a little party dress as I was dancing and I was baking hot. At that point I didn't really want to get out of my wedding dress but I was happy to IYKWIM?

If I'm an evening guest then I look forward to seeing the dress, and I think that I would be disappointed if I didn't get to see the actual dress. I don't think I'd understand the point of changing into a second big wedding dress.

However, it is your wedding and you can do what you want!

Well, my reasoning is not just because I liked it, but actually because for my main dress to be altered length wise it would cost a fortune due to all the layering (all different lengths), so they told me to order it in a specific length (it comes in 3 lengths) and choose a heel to fit basically. But I am not good in heels at all and always wanted to wear flats! The Jacee dress is chiffon and very light and easy to alter length on, and I would wear comfy flipflops with it which to me is bliss. I used to be a professional dancer and love to dance the night away so it would be more of a comfort thing. Jacee isn't a big dress at all, it is very slimline and floaty as opposed to my dress which is quite big.

You don't have to explain yourself... For the purpose of dancing Jaycee doesn't appear that suitable most would opt for a short dress to dance in!

Surely if your saving money by not altering the frat dress you are spending more by buying a second and having that altered...

I had two dresses but they came to £275.50 in total and my hair, make up, shoes and veil were free, so I think it's fair enough. I bought one because it was slightly roomier than one I'd originally bought but then the diet worked and I could have choose between them. I loved my day dress but couldn't have enjoyed the disco in it as the train was too long. My evening dress was much more lightweight and floaty and cooler too. My legs got really hot in the day.

If I had a spare £300 I'd be putting it behind the bar not wasting it on another wedding dress!! I agree with the others, if you feel you can't dance the night away in your big dress then go for a dramatic change. I would think it very odd if the bride disappeared for half an hour to change and came back in a slightly smaller wedding dress!

Having said that it is your money and you should spend it as you wish. Who cares what people will think anyway ?

Don't think you're crazy at all.

    Just a bit unusual!!

By watching Four Weddings US and My Fair Wedding, I noticed is somewhat common over there to have a dress change. The brides always seem to love it so why not?

If this is how you want to prioritize your budget, nothing crazy with it!! =)

It is up to you how you plan your budget and what you spend it on . In my eyes I absolutely adore my dress so much I won't be taking it off - it's going to be a nightmare to dance in and when I put flats on of course the length will be too long but... I only get to wear it one day in my whole life! To me when I have a daughter I want to be able to say 'that's my wedding dress' not 'that's my wedding dress and here's my second one' ... I'm hoping my dress wows my h2b - one dress scares me enough but expecting approval and wow factor on two would worry me to death.

of course it is no ones decision other than yours. However from a guest point of view I can't see the point of changing into another full length gown ?! But heyho it's your day x
