After reading comments on here... I'm worried my tables will look "messy!"

MrsV-wasMissB, 23 July, 2015 at 10:07 Posted on Planning 0 31

I don't have many photos but these are what we had on the mock up a few months back.

The candle holders all have light pink candles in them now.

I'll be honest, I do think they look quite busy.

Can you remove one of the stands? Or put the napkins under the plates?

As Coco Chanel said "before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off."

Maybe just moving or taking away one element with make you feel better about them.

I don't think it needs the table confetti, maybe try it without? Or put a napkin each on a plate rather than having them stacked up?

I wouldn't say messy, just a bit too busy for my own personal taste.

You've clearly put a lot of effort into every detail. For me personally it's a little busy, but if you like it i think you should stick with it. It doesn't matter what we think.

If you are thinking of taking some things off, i'd say maybe the confetti and putting the napkins flat might make it look a bit more streamline.

I wouldn't say it's messy but would say slightly too much and agree maybe take the table confetti away. Will you also need the paper napkins as well as the other white ones?

The cake stand seems a little too much - but do you have cakes coming at some point?

I agree with other - do you need paper and white napkins? I'm not too sure about the confetti either.

Definitely not messy though - just a bit busy!

Thanks for the feedback. We were mm-ing and arr-ing over the napkins anyway, so I think you're all right in that "do we really need them?". Think they will be the ones to remove...

I am obsessed with confetti so that is staying Smiley winking

As for the cake stands, they wont be there until the first course (sandwiches) come out. We put them there to see the "finished" effect once the food comes out

I think that will be fine then. Generally tables do get busy when food starts to come out. Ours will have jugs of sauce and bowls of veg coming out so there will be lots on our tables but no one's going to care when they're eating. ?

Im personally not keen, dont like the mix of plates or confetti. Im quite OCD! I like things simple and matching. Of corse everyone is different, what are you not keen on?

Every table has a matching 3-set at the place setting (teacup, saucer, plate) but the 10 sets will all be different. OH didn't want matchy matchy white crockery so we've got for the mismatch.

I'm not sure, come to think of it I think it was the untidiness of the teacups.

Haha, i think its a clean thing personally, white looks clean! Could you maybe do a mock up with different crockery?

I don't think the confetti matches with the theme of the tea cups - sorry.

Maybe little pearl confetti would work? That's what we've got.

I think the petals and the confetti is a little too much try it without both or with just one. I think they distract from everything else.

I think maybe either the confetti or the table runner but both is a bit much.

    E

What about having the plates saucers and cups stacked so it didn't look like there was as much dotted over the place? Maybe have the napkin under they saucers too? A bit Like this.

Yes I see what you mean... We initially had them separated because we wanted the teacups on their sides to be have name place cards tied to them. We are no longer doing that... Yes I think the stack of 3 at the place setting would work much better.

We wont get chance to have another trial run, so I am so glad I made this post!

I'm very minimalistic so it wouldn't be my style, but I say if you were happy with it to begin with then stick with it! Don't worry about comparing your wedding to others.

As others have said, it's busy. It's also not my style.

I would stack the plates and cups as suggested. I'd also do something with the white napkins so they are neatly set to the side with cutlery on top. I'd nick the petals and put the confetti in its place instead of all over the table. Keep it simple.

Hang on a sec.... I feel a bit uncomfortable now. Ash - you might have misread previous posts. Nobody apart from you said it was messy.

Busy and messy are not the same thing.

Agree with the others, stack the crockery, have the cups upright, lose the flowery napkins and maybe just fold the white napkins.

That'll make it more streamlined and then I think the confetti will work.

It does look pretty though as it is!

Good feedback on here. With a bit of tweaking it will look great.

Have you sourced all that crockery yourself? Must have taken you ages, if so! My husband absolutely loves the mismatched crockery look as a fab cafe near us does it.

I really like the mismatched crockery style, it looks great- I think stacked in 3s would look even better. But in total honesty, I know you said you love it, but I think the confetti really cheapens the whole thing- it's so tacky and not in keeping with the tea party style you've got going on! If the confetti was gone, I'd love it.

I think you've had some really constructive feedback (it's nice to see everyone playing nicely ?)

I agree with the others that it is busy, the danger being that all your carefully chosen details get lost amongst the others.

I know you love the confetti but it doesn't fit the vintage tea party theme - could you scatter the petals instead? I'd also lose the runner.

I agree that stacking the crockery and folding the napkins flat will simplify things as would lining up all the cutlery in a row.

you've picked some pretty things, let them shine.

yes 75 % of it, we borrowed around 12 tea sets and a couple of teapots. Smiley smile it was my H2Bs idea, I wanted the white ones the venue provide. The tearooms in which I had my hen party tea has mismatch and it looked wonderful Smiley smile

Yes I know, its been great feedback! Smiley smile

We wasn't going for vintage per se, just wanted a tea party style theme, bit like mad hatters, to the wedding breakfast. The runners are on hire which is now paid for.. don't really want to loose them.

We have advised the venue we want to stack the crockery and keep teacups upright. Not sure how we'd do the napkins though, H2B likes them "fancied up" and I dont care either way .... :/

    And thank you Smiley smile

I agree with some of the others that the table confetti is adding to the busyness as your set on keeping it maybe as suggested down the middle and different style?

In terms of your napkins you could still do fancy but without taking up so much space - we folded ours to make a pocket for our cutlery it looked good something like the below - this still looked good but didn't take up as much space and also allowed more space on the table.
