after the big day...

Salari, 31 May, 2011 at 15:52 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hello!

I have started to think about things I want to do after the day, when everything has finished, our honeymoon is over and we're back to reality! I've heard of "post wedding blues" and was wondering if any OM's out there had expeirenced something like this? If so, did you have any projects lined up??

We're trying to sell our flat, so this will shift into priority after the wedding (anyone want a nice 1 bed flat in North london BTW? ?)

I'm also going to start running - planning on doing the couch to 5k pan, as I've enetered the addidas race on 11th September, and want to do my best with it!!

anyone got any plans for afterwards???

    Oh yes I have plans!

We move into our first place together 2 weeks before the wedding, so very little will get sorted then, so I'll have all our stuff to unpack.

OH is off working away for 6 whole months so I need to plan in a bid to avoid turning into a jibbering wreck at waving him off.

I am planning to take up cooking, planning a few trips - a cruise for when he returns, then Dominican republic and something in the US so that should keep me busy.

Then I need to find a new job too, which will keep me on my toes and will get involved in lots of activities to meet new people in the place I am moving to.. Then before I know it, it will be Xmas and i'll be counting down to the OH coming home, his 2 weeks R&R, then his end of tour and our hols/baby making plans!

    So... fun fun fun!

    Loads!

Finish off doing our house - we bought it 2 years ago last week as a new build & only did up like half of it! New furniture in spare bedroom, new bathroom floor (weve laminate down at mo - boke!) put a pot belly burner in where fireplace is, new tv in our bedroom, finish off garden, raise fence to keep our nasty neighbours out etc!

    a holiday for next year

    a couple of wkends away

keep up my boxing / personal training

Enjoy having some £ - shopping & meals out Smiley smile

Yes! My sister is pregnant and due in September so when I get back I'll be organising her baby shower. Also I am desperate to move so will be looking into that (although we are in negative equity so its going to be a tricky one!).

I also have a professional qualification I am doing at work with exams in September so I'll be busy with that when I get back!

I am also trying to get rid of a 1 bed flat in North London ha ha! Our plan after the wedding is to save for a house and then have a BABY! :o) Over the space of about 3 years this is! We are also having our honeymoon 3 months after the wedding so thats something to look forward too!

I will have to pack up all our stuff so we can move in with the in-laws (as they will be!) for a few months. I HATE MOVING. Because of uni, I've done it a fair few times over the past four years so I know how to do it most effectively but it's still a PITA!

Then finish off my dissertation, find a proper job (oh god that's so scary!!), find and buy a house... then have babies!

I will probably be on a downer come mid Sept as that is when the long holidays (from uni), the wedding and the honeymoon will be over, but I plan to focus on my last year at uni and battle through it. We really need to get into the saving mindset as I desperately want to move into a nice house one day!!! That's all really, I may see what holidays I have off/ eldest has off school together and book some camping or small holidays (they always turn out expensive though), but nothing much really. x

Is it worth $19.99 (the only place I can see it) or am I missing a trick?

The site for UK entry is £15 from the link below. It's in Hyde Park in London every year.

    https://www.womenschallenge.co.uk/onlineentry/entry/London/

I don't know what you mean by 'is it worth it' in terms of the money though. Part of the entry fee (£5 I believe) is donated to a charity you can pick off a massive list. The rest of the money goes to the organisation of the day and the goody bags (actual bag, medal, t-shirt, biccies, drinks, samples). I think it's a reasonable price to pay for a really well organised run involving around 10,000 people and nice mementos of the day Smiley smile

Sorry I think we may have our wires crossed - the $19.99 was the price I saw for the couch to 5k challenge

    Ah right!

As far as I know the couch to 5k is free! All the information you need to do it is available online - you can even get music for your mp3 player with timed intervals to let you know when to walk and when to run. I certainly didn't pay anything!!

There are several variations on the plan but the main one is here:

    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

about half way down the page.

The free music version by DJ Steveboy is here:

    http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html

I didn't even know people tried to charge for this - cheeky!!

BV - that's super useful, think I'm going to add that to my list of things to do!

As for me, post marriage blues haven't had a chance to look in! We've been really busy and have lots of things in the pipeline for us. Work is looking particularly interesting for me at the moment, my husband's just had a new contract confirmed and we've set ourselves 10 months as a goal to buy another property. We've also got the small matter of our honeymoon to organise as well as a cricket team to perk up.

Then, hopefully at some point, it's trying to start a family. Not just yet though, want to enjoy our marriage being just the two of us for now!

I'm in that "so... what now??!" phase of newly wedded bliss and it's a really surreal feeling. I'm not down as such; it's actually quite nice to not have a massive project to plan to a very strict deadline! We both went back to work today and have been bombarded with questions and best wishes post-wedding so it all still feels quite nice and special. I'm trying to adjust to having a new name - used my new bank card for the first time today and got all SQUEEEE about it! There's lots of settling in to do, so that's my focus at the moment. No starting a family on the agenda for us, we already have 3 children! We were supposed to be moving house but that all went Pete Tong. Long story....

Well, we have our honeymoon in two weeks. Then I intend to finally get started on making our new house a home rather than a "shell" as it has been for for the past 6 months! Our money has been ploughed into the wedding rather than the house so I am going to relish working on it!

Bloody hell you keep yourself busy and a half! I keep meaning to suggest a time for a drink but I don't think you'll have a free slot this time of Christmas looking at it!!

I've done couch to 5k - downloaded it onto my iPhone - it's fab! Completed it a couple of months ago and now run two or three times a week anywhere between 15 and 35 mins. Really need to start upping the distance and running more often but for now just want to maintain my fitness til the wedding (1.5 weeks!). Before I started I struggled to run two mins without stopping so highly recommend C25K x

I'm at Uni over the summer after the wedding so my time will be filled with classes, and then exams! :-(

I have quite enjoyed the planning, and will probably miss it to an extent. OH is quite keen to move house - anywhere but where we live now - after the wedding. We're right on a busy main route into town and the noise drives him mad (he's from a rural part of Wales so traffic noise does his head in).
