Afternoon tea wedding

Cupcakebex, 7 May, 2013 at 19:53 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi ladies,

has anyone been to or having an afternoon tea style wedding? We have decided to buy a property rather than go full blown wedding and as this is my partners favourite thing it really makes sense. I was thinking all vintage fair, bunting, you get the picture. Also we won't have as much money as before, maybe around £6000/£7000 as a guess. How can I achieve this in this budget? Thanks in advance Smiley smile

My caterer does afternoon tea for £6.95 per head plus £2,50 if you want the vintage china etc. It should be easily doable on your budget if you get the right venue xx

We are having catered afternoon tea at £15.00 per head - they provide plain crockery and are happy to use vintage but we would have to source it. Everyone I have spoken to loves the idea. They have also said they will serve our welcome drinks, alcohol during the meal and the fizz for the toast which means we can buy it cheaply and they will serve it without charging any corkage or additional fees. It has been a great idea for us leaving us room in the budget to provide a hot meal for 100 in the evening buffet and pay for other nice details (such as having a band plus a DJ) which we may otherwise note have had.

We are having an afternoon tea wedding, our venue are just charging their normal afternoon tea price (£15 per head) but we have made a couple of substitutions to balance out the sweet vs savoury a bit as we are having our wedding cake at the same time

We had an afternoon tea at our wedding, but it wasn't a budget option for us - I think we paid about £50-55 per head! My report is here: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/265457.aspx?PageIndex=1 so you can see what it looked like.

We're having afternoon tea for our English reception but me and my mum will be making everything ourselves! I can imagine it being stressful but we will be borrowing MIL2B's kitchen for the prep as she has industrial cookers and about 3 of them.

Your budget is really doable, you can always speak to local bakeries to see what they can do if you're not having your reception in a formal venue. Costco is also great for big cakes!

I have been to one where they included afternoon tea, they actually did a lot of the home made thing, so she got all the cups and saucers from charity shps and personalised them with cute tags and made the bunting herself out of old patterned sheets. So if you're up for DIY you can save a helluvalot!
