Ah mother keeps inviting her friends

Meg101, 4 December, 2017 at 21:44 Posted on Planning 0 1

I'm getting a little nervous now, 10 months to go and we still don't have a guest list but my mum's alright because she seems to be making her own for us!

It started with one friend, then two now it's 'i hope you don;t mind but im askinga few friends to come along'

We haven't done any inviting yet but i know she's already told several people they're coming. Yes these people are old family friends but we have our own close friends to invite too and im getting nervous. She'll get drunk at work christmas party and invite all of them next. Yikes!

Is she paying? If so it is difficult, the general rule is that if they are paying they have some input on the guest list.

F and I have a rule that we don't want anyone there that if they were to walk into the room, neither of us would recognise them.. we don't want to meet someone for the first time on our wedding day.

I've had to explain once or twice (gently) that it's our wedding, not their party, if they want all their friends there they should reknew their vows.

Get the guest list sorted ASAP. We did ours and put them on A list, B list, C list (hope noone ever sees this!) so we can invite all of A to the day, then move people up as budget allows. Brutal but we can't invite the whole world.

Why not let her just plan her own party? lol

Get your guest list done, and anyone who doesn't receive a written invitation; isn't invited

We've gone 50 on the day, ranked by relationship: anyone who's in the wedding party + parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles and some close friends.

Then the future in-laws are throwing a bash at the weekend and inviting every man and his dog -but they're paying for that part so I'm not complaining despite dreading the party
