Alcohol!

Sydneys, 28 September, 2012 at 10:17 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi all

Just joined the forum and will be marrying sometime next summer - all being well!

We're having trouble deciding on how much free booze to provide, or whether to just have a paid bar for the evening and just free drinks at the meal. What do people think about this?

Best wishes

S

We did this too, we had drinks on the lawn after the ceremony, 1/2 bottle pp with the meal and glass of champers for the toast. We also put £1,000 behind the bar for drinks, we set a £500 limit for the afternoon and once it was gone stop then the next £500 to start at 7.30 so when the evening guests came they could geta free drink. This lasted till 9.30 BUT what i should have done was said its only on wines and beer as it would have lasted even longer.

    HI,

We are having 3 welcome drinks, 1/2 bottle of wine per person ( with a few extra bottles to top up where necessary), Champagne to toast ( a few spare bottles as well) and then we are organising welcome drinks for those who are turning up for the evening.

    Hope that helps!

Guys, this forum rocks! Thanks for so many quick responses. I'll report back to the management team (the bride, her mother and my mother) and we'll see what they say. Thanks for all the help!

We provided the lot!! We had a Village Hall Reception, so hence providing all the drinks, Pimms/ Fizz on arrival, Wine on the Tables, Fizz for Toasts, Beer/Lager and all the Soft Drinks. Obviously some people will take advantage of the free booze, but I think we spent around £1000 in total but had so much left over!!
