alcohol

Hey

Has anyone opted to provide your own alcohol for the reception? Our venue wants around 1000 to cover to the evening bar but I think it's a little expensive! At the same time I'm worried as I'm have no idea how much of which bottles to buy

Advice welcome

We chose to have an unlimited drinks package with our venue for the day time. This included reception drinks of winter pimms, prosecco, beer and juice for the drinks reception, red, white and rose wine for the meal (the pimms etc were also still available) and a glass of prosecco for everyone for the toast. For unlimited this was a maximum cost of £13.50 per person. I say maximum as they counted how many jugs/bottles were used and then worked out the cost per person based on this. We ended up paying under the maximum and it worked out at £975. This finished after the meal though and we didn't provide a free bar in the evening.

was perfect for us as we didn't have to worry about how much to buy etc, and it worked out less than what we had budgeted so always a bonus!!

No, the corkage fees were so high that it didn't make much difference. I think it is a deliberate move to deter people from supplying their own alcohol.

We are doing this because it works out more cost effective and the venue doesn't charge for corkage. A general rule of thumb is half a bottle of wine per guest at the table, so 4 bottles on a table of 8 adults. We are probably not going to do 50:50 white and red because we know a lot of our guests don't drink red. Still need to work that one out though...

That seems a little steep to me - we have provided our own - we don't have any bar ours worked out at under £400 for wine on the table and prosecco for toasts.

My parents are very savy though and brilliant at working out supermarket deals and offers such as £20 off when spending £60 etc so have managed to get £8 bottles of wine for under £4 when there has been deals and using vouchers. The prosecco was supposed to be £10 a bottle but this came in at £5.

As others have said check the corkage! We don't have any thankfully

I am suppling the wine for during the meal. Corkage at our venue is £10 a bottle and the cheapest bottle is we but from them is £18. We figured we could get a decent bottle wine wine for less then £8. We are doing 4 bottle per table of 10. Xx

We supplied our own wine for the tables but let the venue do the toast and welcome drinks (no free evening bar).

We did three bottles for tables of 8-10. Worked out fine as we had a lot of children and non-drinkers at the wedding. Wine was the only thing it worked out for cost effective to supply with the corkage (about £8) and Costco bulk buy wine prices.
