Alternative guestbook

claiireee, 25 March, 2012 at 19:22 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi everyone,

Just wondering what people are doing as a guestbook, or a slight alternative? I like the look of the finger print trees, but I'd like people to be able to write a message rather than just sign their name. I've had a few ideas, but my favourite at the minute is gift tags. We're having jam jars filled with sweets as favours, and thought a gift tag tied on could double up as a place name, then a little note asking people to leave us a message on the back. Hopefully people will write something while waiting for food etc. After we collect them in, depending how many we get, we plan to arrange them in a frame if some sort and hang it on the wall. Would love to hear your ideas as mine will likely be top trumped and change Smiley smile x

I'm just gonna have a fingerprint tree, and get them to sign their name on the fingerprint. I was thinking it's a shame not to get peoples comments but then i thought whenever i write in one of those, i never know what to write and end up copying someone else. I also will put the fingerprint tree up on the wall. A guestbook would get filed away never to be seen again. Just my point of view - I know a guestbook works really well for a lot of people. x

We are having a photobooth. People get two sets of prints and stick one in a guest book with a note, and take the other set home with them. The photobooth also has a video message option, so we will also get a DVD of people's messages. I wasn't too keen, but the boy's friend had been to a wedding where they had one and was raving about it, and he was really excited about booking it. I'd almost forgotten really, we booked it ages ago!

Our TOG stayed late and took pics of our guests with chalkboard messages.

Hi Claire, I think your idea is great.

Our wedding has a loose 50s pin up (me)/ comic book geek (OH) theme. I have some postcards I brought off ebay - on the front of them are pin ups or old comic book covers. When we send our invitations out we are popping one of these in for guests to send back as reply slips. As we will have so many of these left over after this I'm going to take them to the wedding and leave them on a table for guests to sign, on the front or back - depending how much people want to write! After the wedding I will put them together in a frame - like your gift tags! Hopefully some people will choose their favourite card and sign the front so the collage will be quite colourful!

I've stolen another hitchers idea ? and we're having postcards from places special to us. Guests will choose one, write a note, and 'post it' in our postbox. Then we'll make a collage or scrapbook with them.

Hi Fizzpop, my OH is a comic book geek too! We're contemplating super heroes for the table names but wondering if that's too geeky. Our cake topper is going to be me and Batman hehe. Not everyone's cup if tea but I thought I might as well embrace it, it's his wedding too and everyone knows what he's like. Did you find your cards from a specific seller? They sound great Smiley smile x

    Hi

I'm just about to launch a guestbook puzzle. Can be made in any size to suit the number of guests and can be framed afterwards.... Would make a lovely keepsake.

I love the idea of the fingerprint tree. We are having a video guestbook which is basically a little stand where guests can record their message. Hoping we'll get some really funny ones as the night goes on! Here's the one i'm getting, quite a bit different to the normal booths you get but this one works a lot better.

I am making a guest book quilt. We will have a table with squares of Fabric for guests to sign their names, leave a message or draw a picture. I'm allowing plenty of squares ready cut out so it doesn't matter if people make mistakes or if they want to do more than one square. I'm setting up a table with a perminent Fabric pens and some sample ideas so people get the idea of what they can do. Then after the wedding I'm going to make a double bed quilt with the squares Plus more Fabric in our colour scheme. You can make this as complicated or as simple as your skill allows. I'm really looking forward to it.

I got the cards from here

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-COMIC-COVERS-1930s-90s-60-ALL-DIFFERENT-A6-ARTCARDS-/220971212081?pt=UK_Books_Comics_Magazines_US_Comics_ET&hash=item3372e91d31#ht_1218wt_881

They're really good and everyone is different. They aren't shiny or as hard wearing what I would class as postcards but they will do great for us. I want the wedding to be about my OH and not just me (although I am making most of the decisions)! I think a Batman cake topper would be excellent - we are having a Bag End cake so it might look strange with superheroes on top, but I might steal your idea about the table names!

This was what my brother did, and for favours all the guests got a tiny little frame for their other picture.

I'm doing something similar- having an instant film camera for guests to take photos of each other, then write notes and put them in an album I'll provide!

Are you having the wishing well instead of a gift list or is it as well?

Probably instead of, as a young couple we'd rather have money to help us set out in life than gifts Smiley smile x

I was under the impression that wedding wishing wells , we're for people to leave written messages of their Best wishes for the couple ? just a variation of a post box for post cards ? ?

I'm still undecided, I love the idea of a photo booth and think they're really good fun as well. But at a wedding fayre recently we met a photographer who does signing boards which have a picture from your wedding in the middle then the guests can sign round the outside.
