Alternative style dress ?

curlyclaz, 13 August, 2012 at 17:09 Posted on Planning 0 16

Having just started trying a few dresses on I am quickly realising I don't think I want or suit 'wedding dresses' I am going to give one more shop a try to see if I can find a style I like but then I think I might hunt for something a bit different. The only thing I know I want is a lace up corset. I don not want a 'goth' style dress but am open to colour and pattern. Any suggestions ? My budget is up to £500 and the whole feel of our day is realxed.

Or buy a basic dress, take it to a seamstress and customise it

Me too! Well, an honorary Northerner. Live and getting married in the NE but originally from South Wales. It's a gorgeous dress. Was thinking of something similar for my BMs but now thinking they might be a bit too glam lol.

I had the same issue so decided to get a dress made.

It's worked out to be about £1200 but that's down to the design and material so I'm sure you could get something made for your budget if you found a good seamstress.

I have fallen in love with a fairy gothmother corset and skirt, but the skirt alone takes my whole budget. I might see if I can go to the shop and try some things on and see if a different (and cheaper skirt ) would work.

Curly, is it this one, because it is amazing!! I popped in to the shop last weekend to find a dress for my friend's birthday and there was a woman doing her fitting in there and she looked fabulous!

Yes that is the one, it is so beautiful, but out of price range. They do have some of the skirts on sale but my size 14 and theirs are very different so I will have to keep an eye out for more sales or find something else.

    *Hellooo other North East ladies!*

I always thought I'd want a traditional wedding dress, but mine was just so 'me'- my favourite colour, favourite style etc. My poor mam was worried no-one would know who the bride was as she thought I'd look too much like a bridesmaid! But I loved it anyway, ha.

Some great places mentioned on here; I've spent many an hour drooling over Candy Anthony and Fairy Gothmother beauties......
