Alternative to a guest book

morristobe, 5 December, 2012 at 17:11 Posted on Planning 0 26

For my sons christening we got everyone to 'leaf' their print on a fingerprint tree which looks amazing, and we thought of something similar for our weddig. But wondered if anyone else had any other ideas of somethig completly different? Or do you know of any fingerprint doves or anything like that we could do instead of the tree?

xx

We are looking at ones of those 'signature frames' for guests to sign instead of the traditional guest book. We will put a pic of us in it just to fill the frame for the reception and then once the guests have uploaded their pictures, we will pick one of them to complete the frame Smiley smile

This (ish). We will have our fujifilm instax camera set up in the evening with a basket of film for it and a book in which guests will put their photos and write a little message. It's the only way I could think of making something we'll ever actually look at again! I imagine there will be loads of ridiculous drunken shots, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the results. My brother and sister will be checking in on it periodically to make sure it's still loaded with film and not gone missing Smiley smile

Our friend had bunting as a guest book. Each guest got a triangle of bunting sent with their invite. They were asked to decorate it as they wished instead of a guest book.

At the wedding everyone brought their piece of bunting & they were pegged to a string & hung around the marquee. Some were just written with fabric pen, some were sequinned & others were embroided.

They were eventually sewn onto the bunting rope after the wedding & now hang around a door in their new house.

Another thing I saw at a cousin wedding was a table cloth used as a guest book. This was later embroidered over where guests had written. I dont know if it ever gets used or is just kept as a memento.

This is good although after much research the best possible camera and film are the Fuji Instax Wide 210 cameras and film.

Best colour, development time and cost.

We're having words of wisdom as the place names, so guests will just pop on a few words of wisdom/advice etc to us and then after the meal, or even during, they can go add them to a board we've got for them to be pinned onto. Gives guests something to do at the tables and doubles up as their place names too ?

We did a message in a bottle for ours. We asked guests to leave us a message/ advice etc for us to read on our 1st anniversary (paper) It was really popular with guests and lots of good comments on it. We did save all the messages too and was lovely to read a year later. We put a message next to bottle to explain as below...

Hi, how about a wish tree?

These have been very popular for us this year. Some designs can be seen here http://www.lilypondweddings.com/weddingwishtrees.htm

Completely bespoke so all colours and extras can be changed.

That is what I have Chris. They are very good. People make the mistake buying the old pop up ones but get stung on the cost of the film.

We're hoping to have a photobooth run by the TOG so guests have a pic taken and it goes into an album where they can then write a message too. I've also seen people have pictures taken with a chalkboard to write messages on so then you don't have to print them at the time and you could just get a willing bridesmaid, usher or someone to take pics.

My hairdresser had a frame that everyone signs; she was telling us about it today.

Wow i didn't expect to get so many responses. I love the jigsaw idea, does anyone know of any cheaper sites? I have around 120 evening guests so would ideally need a 60 piece jigsaw at least.Has anyone else done this idea? I think it would be really lovely to have framed afterwards and hang in the living room :-) xx

We actually used about three of the ideas already mentioned! We did the blank bunting with each invite and the response we got was AMAZING! We had it hung in the venue although haven't done anything with it as yet. We did a DIY photo booth with the fuji instamax and some people used the blackboard to write a message. We have photos of most guests via this route and some hilarious moments captured! We have about 80 pictures collage style in 4 large frames hanging on the wall up the staircase which I totally love. We also did a 'time capsule' where folks left a note for our first anniversary! We also did a love letter and champagne ceremony at the service so have an expensive bottle of champers in a wooden box with love letters to one another than we haven't yet read to open on our first anniversary. we'll read our time capsule then too. The champagne will be drunk and then replaced with a new bottle for the next anniversary.

Gawd I don't miss wedding planning!

We love the "alternative guest book" idea; Pinterest has some amazing ideas. Signed musical instruments, if you are musical, like a guitar or something that you can mount. I also love the idea of a polaroid book so you get a snap shot of everyone on your day alongside their note. Other ideas include Jigsaw & Jenga pieces, signing a big sheet of paper/card in the shape of your new intial.

What a beautiful idea! We were considering using an actual bottle as a guest book (as per below) but now I'm thinking:

Special wooden box for love letters to each other, words of wisdom, advice and best wishes from guests plus anniversary champagne to be replaced annually. The way I see it, the big day is just the beginning; there will be good and not so good years to come and it can only be beneficial to remind ourselves and each other of the reasons we took that important step.
