Alternative to bridal flowers?

mustard_mitt, 9 January, 2014 at 22:07 Posted on Planning 0 5

I found this online, it's a button bouquet. I really love it, it's so different!

I never fancied the idea of a regular floral bouquet. The flowers will soon wilt and die and it all seems such a waste. I really like the idea of having a bouquet I can keep. I looked at silk flowers but I'm not sure of the quality. I'm not sure if button bouquets are a new thing but I've never seen them before! This particular one costs £170 though, so perhaps not much cheaper than an actual bridal bouquet?!

I thought maybe the bridesmaids could have miniature versions of my design too, which they can then keep for themselves.

this is my button bouquet. I'm not sure they're particularly a new thing but when you start out wedding planning everything seems new and unique. Shop around, you can definitely get them for less than £170

Button and brooch bouquets have been around for a while but I'd never seen them before when I started wedding planning (I'd never been to a wedding with one). I'm making my own brooch bouquet - it's still working out as a fair bit but it means I can add brooches friends and family have given me too which makes it extra special (though it's taking me a while to make it and I'm worried about the 'arranging' it part!)

I made my bouquet and my friend made the felt and button ones for my bridesmaids.. mine took about 3 attempts (can be fiddly) and cost probably £30 in materials. I love them! Smiley smile

Brooch and button bouquets have become very popular in the last 2 years. When you add up the cost of materials and labour you can see why they are so expensive, however they make great keepsakes. Lots of brides make their own and I think it also fills the time when there isn't a lot of organising to do. I have a couple of tutorials here and there is lots of help online on you tube etc.
