Am I being over charged?

tealbutterfly27, 22 June, 2013 at 09:54 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,

We're planning to wed in December and I'm a little clueless about how much things should cost, I have been trying to negotiate a little lower than the brochure price. We got engaged on my birthday in May and so I know there's ALOT to do!

Just some back ground info, Sunday Wedding in Early December, London for 120 guest.

Reception venue said £1600, I'm paying 1200

but then she's charging me £600 for table decor which is table linen, napkins, chair covers, sashes, crockery and glassware. Is £600 a lot?

Thoughts appreciated!

Hey, it sounds like your reception venue is a good deal although does that include food and drink? Is the £600 part of that or separate, even so with the extra £600 it's still a v good deal. Will they allow you to source your own table linen, crockery, chair covers etc instead? May save a bit of money that way.

We've been had a little this way. We have to go with the venue's recommended chair cover hire supplier (the only supplier the venue is not giving us a choice in) and that is costing £350 alone and we are only having 65 guests grrr! I can't even get away without them (which I would prefer) as they are ugly conference chairs.

Have a chat with your venue and see where you stand.

Rental of linens has to cover laundering as well as loss through damage (red wine spills etc) so if you work it out on a rough scale (estimated low) of £2 per chair, £1 per napkin, £5 per tablecloth (presuming 12 tables plus a cake table) it comes to £425.

Hire of crockery has to include washing and breakages. Has she included cutlery too? I don't think that £175 seems unreasonable for this.

My venue hire for 140ppl in London, for a sunday in June! cost £1500... This is inclusive of table linen, table wear, menus and place cards, I'm sure there is more I've forgotten to add! The only thing excluded is chair covers and sashes and this is because they recently got new chairs. This is just venue hire mind you and doesn't include careering.

Checked my paperwork and a Sunday in December would have cost £950

where in London are you getting married? I'm guessing here location is also a big factor!

London is always a factor in pricing! It seems ok to me bear, in mind there's costs of washing and maintaining these supplies as well, there's a lot of hidden costs going into storing and upkeeping 120 chair covers, making sure they're always pristine etc.

Hey I think is pretty normal prices. Is the service of actually setting up everything in the space also included? Be careful cause some times is not and that is really unexpected. Did you try negotiating to include more stuff in the price? Its usually better to negotiate with them to include knots for chairs, etc rather than dropping the price..this is what I tried to do for my previous brides, because is easier and less expensive to get as much as you can from themSmiley smile Also where in london is it?

If you need help give me an emailSmiley smile

Hi there those prices look fine for me. My wedding is currently set for May 2014 (following an unexpected surprise this year!). I have venue for £1700, photographer for £950 and the violinist Simon Jordan is playing for my ceremony for £260. Those are my bookings so far!

    HTH!
