Am I being over sensitive to wedding shop owner?

Lizzywills, 21 September, 2013 at 21:42 Posted on Planning 0

I was at a wedding fair today and saw a nice dress, now bearing in mind I'm a size 14, but have been squeezed into small dresses by professional dress shops I thought the dress I looked at was ok to try on. So the shop manager says that it's a new sample, it's small,it's expensive, there's no 'give' in it and suggests I try on a similar dress. I didn't really like it but took her advice, tried the dress on and hated it, so decided to get dressed and have another look on the rails.

She then said ' what about the styles with creases across the front, theyre not really fashionable anymore and we've seen them at 100's of weddings but they hide those problem areas (while she looked at my stomach), then she threw in a couple of comments about dressing for our shape and covering my problem areas. By the time she'd finished I had to hold in my tears while waiting for my friend to try her dress on.

i actually cried as I walked away, I was so upset. Was I just being OTT? Anyone else had not great experiences with dress shops?

OH Has had the brunt of my miseries for the rest of the day and don't think he can understand why I'm upset.......SHE MADE ME FEEL LIKE A BIG FATTY WITH LOADS OF PROBLEM AREAS. I'm now lolling at myself

Were you at the one in Liverpool (St Georges Hall)? This is going somewhere, I promise...

I actually took a picture of the 'goody bag' contents because it was full of diet food. Personally, I found that offensive (as a lady who's dropped from a size 16 to a size 10) - they hadn't even looked at me!

Both me and my partner felt like this at some point during the visit. We're an alternative couple, and had at least three stall staffers get snooty with us. The only person who stopped to chat with us properly was an alt chick selling Smooch rings (so she got our business).
