Am I being silly?

laura9889, 7 May, 2012 at 21:34 Posted on Planning 0 12

I know I tend to take things to heart! But this really p*ssed me off!

We went to MI L house yesterday and she had had oh's niece over and our save the dates was just crumpled on the floor and oh niece had scribbled all over it! I was just a bit like thanks for letting her ruin our save the date I glad I took the time to make it! I didn't say anything buying think MIL saw the horror on my face when I picked it up and put it on the table!

I then get all worked up in my head thinking does she care her son is getting married she hasn't shown much interest and tends to shoot all my ideas down!

I personally think it's a little silly. Do you expect everyone to save those save the dates? Even if someone is likely to keep stationary as a reminder of the event, they'd keep the invitation, not the save the date! Most of them will end up in the bin as soon as they've put the date in their diary. I'm sure when she got it she ooh-ed and ahh-ed about how nice it was, how exciting it was to know the date (even though, as your future mother in law, she probably already knew the date), but then after it served its purpose, does it need to get framed? No. I'm assuming your niece is quite young, too. Cut them some slack, and don't say anything about it.

Just move past it, it's definitely not something worth getting worked up about!

I'm a bit of a sucker for kids so would probably help her draw!

I suppose you are right. I just need to toughen up a bit! Lol! I'm far to sensitive for my own good! Didn't expect everyone to keep there save the dates but would expect MIL to!

I would be upset as I would think that she would want to keep it as a keepsake.

I get where you're coming from but MOGs just aren't the same as MOBs, I love mine to bits and she loved being involved in our day but she was never just quite as obsessed as mine.

    WSS!!

Don't think I would 'treasure' STDs from either of my children (when they grow up), much as I adore them, but maybe the actual invitation.

I'd be glad they'd be getting a second use! And rather that than walls and furniture, sorry!

venart, I am really warming to you, you talk such sense, almost (in the nicest way) like an OM already (not like me, despite being a 2nd timer lol) Smiley smile

I wouldn't expect a mother of the groom too personaly. i don't expect anyone to keep our save the dates or invites! we are going to a wedding this year and the invite got shoved on the shelf for a week lost under various kids drawings, letters etc now its hanging on our HUGE cork board with a pin through it to keep it there! Our friends would kill me if they saw it...and i really should know better as im getting married myself and know the agonising pain that comes with choosing the perfect design and font!

Thanks! I'm definitely not an OM, not even a 2nd timer. Just probably one of the most laid back brides you could imagine.

This made me chuckle as I spotted our invite on the windowsill in the dining room of my parents - where everything gets dumped(!) still in it's envelope (although it had been opened). I am hoping they just want to keep it safe!

I would be miffed if I had made them, that's why ours were only cheap and cheerful vista print free postcard jobs! Strangely though most of our extended family members actually put them on display and stuff. But I definitely wouldn't say anything, after all kids will be kids and the adults probably didn't see any harm.

    I wouldn't be bothered myself.

Although I'm sentimental myself (but only with OH's and my things) my mum isn't at all, her invitation will just go in the bin and I don't care as she's excited about what matters!
