Am I leaving it too late?

LizzyB, 9 February, 2011 at 14:53 Posted on Planning 0 12

I just wondered if I was leaving dress shopping too late. I am getting married in May 2012 and am not thinking of dress shopping until June this year. Is that enough time.

The reason for leaving it until June is that i am trying to lose weight and thought that if I left it until June (my birthday) then I could have a girly day with my mum, sisters and bridesmaid on my actual birthday and go dress shopping and food/drinks.

Will 11 months be long enough to find, buy and get my dress? or should i think about going sooner.

Thanks

Not at all i am February 2012 and going dress shopping next month, most shops say 5-6 months to get the dress in so plenty of time!! I know some brides just go looking on the off chance early and find the ONE!! I reckon i will choose mine prob April time, i currently use a crutch so having therapy to get rid of it so i can walk down the isle myself so giving myself another few weeks so i can walk into the shop!!

That should be fine. I bought my dress in April 2010 for our March 2011 wedding.

Thank you both for the replies. Just started to panic that I hadn't started looking and I don't want to be in a panic closer to the date wondering if my dress will arrive in time.

I sort of know what style i like the look of, but have no idea what style will suit me.

One thing is for sure, i can't wait to start looking and trying dresses on. Knowing my luck, i'll fall in love with the first dress i put on and have the shortest dress shoping experience ever!!

Most shops take between 1-5months to order in the dress you want. So yes, you are fine. i wouldn't panic. I got engaged 11 months before my wedding date, so you have nothing to worry about Smiley smile

I would think that 11 months will be plenty of time so I shouldn't worry about it.

I'm getting married next month and got a shock when I went dress shopping in October and was told that with both Christmas and Chinese New Year coming up before my wedding that it was unlikely I would be able to get anything to order, and therefore would have to buy a sale or ex-sample dress. Being a size 18 at the time meant I was severely limited as to my choice, as most sample dresses are 12 or 14, but I was really lucky and managed to find a gorgeous dress anyway (although at a lot more than I wanted to pay for it!).

As for losing weight, I've actually lost another stone and a half since I bought the dress but luckily I got the dress as part of a package that includes free alterations!
