Am i missing the Bride Gene?

bluemoongirly, 26 March, 2012 at 15:39 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi everyone ,

New here, (ive been reading rather than posting).

Anyway, I dont get married until October 2013 and am a little concerned I am not being organised enough?!

We have the venue, registrar (deposit), photographer and string quartet.

Is there anything else I should be getting along with?

I dont want to bug my *real life friends with this as I dont want to become a bore.

However yesterday (when we went to meet the string quartet) by mum, MILTB and HTB just dont seem interested and i'm wondering if the problem is me? I am excited, just dont know where to start!

We havent had an engagement ( been together for 6 years, lived together for 3)

Am i missing the Bride gene?

You have quite a bit if your wedding isn't until October 2013! Mine is June 2013 and we don't have a registrar booked, any entertainment booked, and while we did have a photographer booked, he has since cancelled on us and we have yet to pay the deposit for our new one.

You're not missing anything! I think it's difficult for other people to be excited this far in advance of the wedding, but as it gets closer they will start to show their excitement for you. You don'treally need to do anything at the moment- just keep your eyes and mind open to possible themes and looks for your day!

Oh hun, you're fine, don't worry Smiley smile

Everybody's different when it comes to weddings. Popular culture has all brides as uber-organised, chair-cover obsessed she-demons but we're just normal women with a massive party to organise!

The lack of interest is probably because the wedding's so far away and, to some people, things only need doing nearer the time. Also, parents don't seem to know how soon everything needs to be booked these days. Weddings weren't a billion pound industry when they got married and it was all much simpler!

As far as I can see, you've done everything you need to for the foreseeable future. If your venue doesn't include catering, maybe get onto that next and then start dress shopping. But take it easy! You're doing just fine.

    Awww thanks! Phew!

Yeah i know! I work full time, dont want it to take over my life!

Think will try and sort the cars and then leave it at that.

We have the caters as part of the venue so we are all good.

    Thanks ladies

Hi I really wouldn't worry, our wedding is Feb next year and we have the venue, dresses (mine was just that i was really lucky and the 4th dress i tried at the National wedding fayre was 'the one and my maid of honour gives birth this week so we had to get her measured before she got her bump! photographer - again a really good deal and nice people at a wedding fayre, DJ (as the MILTB paid for the deposit) Registrar provisionally boked as we are getting married in another district.

You have plenty of time to work out what you want, get your ideas and book what is right for you Smiley smile I am taking my time and thinking I maybe need to speed up slightly lol but I know there is still lots of time Smiley smile

love this! and hope its true - but it does mean I am OCD over all party planning (on reflection probably the truth!)

Sounds to me you are in a good place to be honest with you. You have the core things of a wedding, I would just think about what things are most important to you - flowers, catering, favours, decoration.... etc etc and start to think about them, if you want to be doing anything.

I got engaged 20 months before our wedding nds tarted planning then, fortunately all my close people still seem just as excited and have been involved all the way through, though I do share the love between them all!

OH has a certain capacity for wedding stuff so I have to watch that, but maybe you just need to find the right group of friends who will share your excitement now?

    xx

Yeah maybe, think I just need to take a step back for a bit. It is very early, I have one friend getting married next august, but dont want to ask her as I dont want to panic her if she hasnt got that far.

You do have plenty of time to plan everything, but it also gives you loads of time to browse for ideas at your leisure and if you don't want to "bore" people at this stage then share them with all the B2B here.

Our opinions are free and plentiful ?

I really wouldn't worry hun you have ages to go yet so take it in your stride. What i done though which may help was print out or save to my laptop the photo's of ideas i liked and then when the time came to try co ordinate everything and a theme these helped me.

On the side of people not being interested i have done most of it on my own as my mum and sister still keep saying i have ages to go and mine is only 3 months away. I just don't think people realise what it takes and that businesses have to get you booked in their diary early.

I am just going through the process now of trying to involve my mum in the venue decor side of things as there hasn't really been alot else she has been able to help me with me and OH decided most things together and i have chose and ordered things along the way.

Just enjoy the count down and the research process. Good luck hun x

Thanks ladies, thats the thing, i panicked when i contacted some photographers who said they were already booked on mydate! I worried I was going to struggle to get things I wanted!

Think im gonna give it a rest now, maybe get cars done then wait until the year mark (well maybe the summer hols) as I get too much time on my own to think in those long weeks!
