Am I the only one who's husband has gone in to work both today and yesterday?

MrsB, 3 February, 2009 at 09:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 42

I feel so fed up, everyone's posting fab photos of their entire families playing in the snow from yesterday. most people seem to be taking another day off today. I know I should be proud of him in that he knows if he stayed at home, he'd have to work late for sure every night this week to make up the time, but I am jealous of everyone else!

the pre school is shut so my toddler free morning has gone, which is a bit rude considering it's half term next week. my house is a pit and I was relying on a little time to clear up!

I am at the end of a lane in the country, so we are in effect cut off - no one wants to come and see us - yet my husband's managed to skid the car up to the main road both days.

I am soooo cheesed off. and I can't work out how to play about with usernames either. Boo ?

I am in the same boat - right down to the closed pre-school and pit-like house!

    Bah, so not fair.

My husband went to work yesterday (2 hour commute) and didn;t experience any problems and he's also gone in today. My kids have also gone back to school today as well, which is great as it means I have the house to myself!!

Nope. My H is at work and unbelievably is working in a unheated place today.

I'm working from home - I'd actually arranged this last week well before the weather warnings happened. I'm about to log on and crack on now.

Mr tiggaa was at work yesterday and is there again today.... no finishing early/taking the day off for him otherwise he doesn't get paid and neither does the mortgage.

    so you are not alone.....

MrSun and I have both still worked, yesterday and today. He did pick up MissSun when he got home and take her to the local hill but I think after the tantrum he got when it was time to come home he really wished he hadn't bothered ?

My H walked into his work yesterday (which is about 2 miles away) and has driven in today.

I'm feeling lonely now though as our son in now back at school as I'll be making snowmen by myself ?

No, my H has driven cross country both days - the worst bit being our ungritted estate which has a hill with a sharp corner that might as well be blind for the likelihood of stopping in a hurry on ice for an approaching car!

We had to help someone push their car up the hill last night...

OH went into work yesterday and he's gone today, but then so have I. We managed a whole 5 mins out in the snow together yesterday and we both felt a bit sad that we didn't have time to build our son's first snow man.

Mr G is at work too. I'm not, but I'm shortly going to start marking and planning to get a bit ahead of myself so today doesn't feel like a wasted day.

Oh and its not just round the corner either its 11 miles away ?

Mine went in yesterday, but was sent home at lunch. He had to make a 2 hr conference call from home and needed the PC which mean I had to keep a noisy toddler away from her daddy, without any of her toys. We got a quick half hour in the snow though, and he's gone in again today. Mind you, he walks in, so really no excuse.

H is in work today, but could not get in yesterday, as the car was blocked in by 7 inches of snow in the car park. The car park is communal for the 6 houses here, and most of the neighbours (H included) were making a joint digging effort to try to make it serviceable to get cars out, but it was ending up being a bit of a hopeless task. (It was nice though, seeing all the neighbours out together in a community spirit helping each other) He only works for a small company so he and his boss (also snowed in!) made the decision to close for the day.

Son is on his second day off school which is closed, and is snuggled up in our bed.

I may have a lovely hot bath and then decide on the corse of action of the day!

As an aside, I rang H to check he got in ok, and he was having a ranty rant at the car drivers who hadn't cleared the 7 inches of show off their roofs and it was falling off everywhere, including onto his windscreen , when driving - he does like a good rant, my H!!!

Sounds like our estate! - We are on a bend and kept a shovel by the front door yesterday, and it was used 4 times by car drivers having to dig themselves out when they had to go off the only track as another car had come round the bend at the same time!

In a turn of the tables, it was me who went in yesterday and Mr G was forced to stay at home to look after the children - we had a 2 hour masterclass on the Lidcombe program (of early stuttering intervention) yesterday and I also had a short loan library book out which had to be in by 10.15 (the fine is 80p per hour for short loan books) so I braved the snow to go into Uni, meaning he had to stay at home. He's going off today, but both the schools are open so I have my study day after all, hurrah! I think he played snowballs with our daughter, but apparently building snowmen is my domain and she wouldn't build one with him, only mummy ? All the snow's gone now, so we'll have to wait.

Exactly the same here Mrs B, H trekked from Herts to central London yesterday, and the same today. Preschool is closed and my house is a pit too. I can't get anywhere as my car won't get off the drive as it's too steep plus the lane is too slippery for it. Even my H couldn't get up the drive last night, had to leave it at the bottom and he has a 4WD. He can get to the station ok though and as it's the main east coast line into London we're on its running.

My H was in work yesterday and is again today. H does walk in unless I'm going to the gym - which is next door to his work - and give him a lift (and I wasn't driving in this). His work did let him go an hour early yesterday as more snow was forecast (people living a long way away were able to leave 2 hours early).

We have both carried on going to work - nursery is still open - we did all play in the snow in the dark when we got home last night though. After all it only takes 10 minutes to build a snowman, write your name, run about a bit, chuck a few snowballs and then get too cold and go inside. Plus youngest is potty training so don't want her out in the cold in wet knickers!

You only need to go out in it for long enough to take a few photos so they can look back on their childhood with fond memories of having spent days playing in the snow ?

Husband often doesn't get back til after the children are in bed, so no chance of even 10 mins in the snow. sob. Mind you, Tabitha has just told me she doesn't want to go in the snow today, so it looks like I'll be forcing her out into the garden later ?

Mr JCG is at work today (leaving me and Junior JGC at home as his preschool is closed) H was at home yesteray, but it was prebooked holiday, as he came with me for a prebooked drs appointment (so, he would have been at work if he hadn't already got the day booked off)

He got into work this morning much quicker than normal!!!

MrB went to work yesterday and today it took him much longer to get there, and today he has just been informed by the man who couldnt get into work due to the weather that he has either got to make the time up he was late or take it as holiday.

H wasn't working but was out and about getting new tyres for the van and getting the tracking sorted . He left at 3am this morning to drive to glasgow (from Brum) and was about half way there when i spoke to him at 8.30. I hate it when he does these trips, even though they are twice a week I worry until he walkes in the door :-(

Ive worked both days - we walked home last night. (H drove his van and left it here (work) incase hecouldn't get it off our estate this monring, but the road was fine so he took my car <sob>

Not alone, mine went in yesterday, but had to come home early and went in today. It's an hour drive, but there was really no need yesterday, I doubt anyone will take note of his heroic efforts to struggle in. I couldn't get to work, I could today, but was worried about getting back in time. I have left my son at the CMs though, as I do need to get on with my work today.

Mr Orly wasn't working yesterday anyway, which was quite lucky for him. I'm not sure he would have managed it with the trains being all over the place. He's working this evening - on a night shift.

My H took the train down to Heathrow yesterday to collect a colleague flying in from Ethiopia and brought him back to Brum and today he's in meetings with this chap and setting up a conference. It would take more than a bit of snow to take a day off work - he doesn't even take his full holiday entitlement! ?

Mr P was at home yesterday as he just couldn't get in, he is home today as well because the journey would be crap and he can do what he planned to do today at home just as well as he could in the office. Pre school here is also closed [wail!] and Clara is already up (usually sleeps until 12.30ish) so I have 3 people irritating me now, I can't exercise and I am miffed off to the extreme. I asked Mr P to do one job yesterday.... on sodding job and has he done it? Has he hell [seeeeeeethe]. I'm dreading Half Term next week too... going to be Viiiiiiile (btw, you are welcome to decamp here for a day if you wish Mrs B. Maybe the two toddlers can burn themselves out together?).

Me too. School shut so boychild is here bugging me and its a non-preschool day so the middle toad is here all day. The noise they have made woke the mini beast up from her far too short sleep and the house is a tip.

Poxy snow. Am fed up with it now
