Am sooooooo upset

gheko, 16 October, 2011 at 08:37 Posted on Planning 0 19

Discovered last night that our wedding hotel has gone into receivership. Never had any news of this through our wedding bureau, i discovered it whilst looking at latest reviews on Trip Advisor. Am thoroughly disgusted! Apparantly all staff were told on Monday 10th Oct that they had no jobs and the hotel was closed on Wednesday.

This throws out wedding plans into total chaos as that hotel was old fashioned and traditional and we even arranged our date around it. Now have less than six months to find another one with availability and reorganise reception.

What a disaster :-(

Oh my gosh are they not going to honour bookings already taken? or another firm may take over? Have you spoke to the venue yourself?

OMG, that's a nightmare! Which hotel was it? I noticed you posted on the thread about Glasgow shops. Are you getting married in a Glasgow hotel? what date are you getting married?

Oh Gheko, you must be gutted. Try not to panic until you've spoken to them though. If you do need to find another venue, perhaps some of the ladies here can suggest places. Good luck xx

Just phoned them and weddings going ahead for now. There is a potential new buyer in the pipeline so heres hoping. They have stopped taking in normal guests but weddings going ahead this year. Will know more in a few weeks. Picked this one because it is very traditional and old fashioned and worked our date around it so will keep my fingers crossed. x

Glad it's still on. I couldn't see a hotel in Gretna not being bought up by someone!

This happened to a colleague of OH's, about 6 weeks before their wedding. They did a story in the local paper, and were offered an amazing venue at a great price - they went back to the paper with a follow up story praising the new venue. It might be worth keeping in mind doing something similar as a worst case scenario - a good deal for you and lots of positive publicity if anyone helps out.

Our venue cancelled our booking 2 weeks ago and it has been hell.....however we now have an amazing venue at an even better price.

If the worst happens I'm sure everything will work out ok, it won't be easy, but it WILL be ok.

I must say though if I was you I'd be looking for alternatives already, just in case x

I'm so sorry to hear that. That was really disappointing.I hope you can find another venue for your wedding-- better and more affordable venue. Nevertheless, I am sure you will still have a successful wedding with your loved one, you can solve this sooner.

Oh no, that's terrible but hopefully you will have a good outcome. I would definitely get in touch with your wedding insurance company to find out if you are entitled to any compensation just in case.

Great that they are honouring your booking, but as already said start investigating options just in case.

    Update

Hotel shut completely and not honouring weddings.

We went down on Thursday to sort out the mess and found another hotel thankfully. Just got to get deposits back now.

Did you have wedding insurance? That should cover any problems if you can't get your deposit back.
