Unfortunately she has closed the business. Another Hitcher had also had an order with her.

    Thanks Sherrie.

I wondered if something like this had happened. Unfortunately I have paid a deposit and don't have wedding insurance.

That is a lesson learned for me!

I was thinking that, surely if you have booked clients you should at least be letting them know and refunding any monies paid due to their 'breach of contract' by not being able to deliver the goods/services agreed on - if not helping them to find someone new to take on whatever service was paid for.

If you're only taking £20 it's probably worth just leaving it and taking it as a lesson learnt but if it's a significant amount would this be something the Small Claims Court would be suitable for?

Spells2b, Will you now be considering getting some form of wedding insurance?

What service(s) had you booked, and for what date? I'm sure someone will be able to help you find a new supplier.

Sorry don't know how to quite the bits I am replying to!

Yes, I will now be getting wedding insurance.

The wedding is on the 15th October 11, we had booked chair covers and some large games, to keep the kids occupied. We paid £90 deposit, so don;t know if we can go to the small claims court.

However, I plan to go to the trading standards in Stoke, where she is based. I will also send a strongly worded letter asking for my money back!!

If anyone knows of chair cover suppliers in Leeds, please let me know.

Two local companies near me have went bust but they had the decency to get their customers another supplier to take the business at no additional cost.

Not ideal but at least they are not left in the lurch.

I think its awful that you havnt been contacted - I hope your deposit wasnt too much.

Is that Leeds in Kent or Leeds in West Yorkshire? I know two trustworthy ones, one of which we are using ourselves, in Leeds Yorkshire.

This bride (me) now won't have any flowers on my wedding day as I didnt budget for them at all.. Oh well, theres poppies in the back field, so will be having them I suppose Smiley sad

How horrible for you both! And IMHO if she hasn't got the decendy to call you and notify you then perhaps her customer service skills weren't the strong part of her business (not meant to sound catty - lack of politeness bugs me)

When are you getting married? Get willing family/friends to raid their garden for the prettiest flowers on the morning of your ceremony and tie a piece of ribbon around them - tres chic! I know it won't be the silk flowers you had ordered and might not be coordinated but it will be something personal and FREE

    How awful for you all.

I was also booking with Claire, but she took so long to reply to my mails that I wasn't particularly confident, so I eventually used her (very good) quote to secure another supplier at the same price.

Hope you all get something sorted

    That's why I haven't heard from her!

I won the Wedding Planner prize in the raffle and i emailed her a couple of months ago to see if we could arrange a meeting and never heard anything back...

It's a good job I'm a closet control freak otherwise I'd be up the creek right now...

Hope everyone who has been let down by her manages to find an alternative with as little stress as possible...

    Smiley smile

Really sorry to hear this. Our daughter used Swaggers in Wakefield and there's also Pretty Chairs who cover Yorkshire and Notts. Hope that helps.

Thanks RF but, Im sure, like myself, other Hitchers who had won something from her hadnt budgeted for the said items... so now totally up the creek without a paddle. Unfortunately, for me, one of the focal points of a wedding are the flowers!! but hey, never mind.. why should she care.

Not sure if this would be possible or not but if Hitched finds out that businesses have closed down, especially the ones which are in the Directory or on here as HIB's, could they put out some sort of a thread asking people to get in touch with Hitched to let them know? Or has this been done already but missed..?

These types of things have happened a few times on Hitched in the past and it reflects badly on every business that posts here. To a certain extent brides trust us because we are part of this community and we have one of those listed supplier logos, would it be an idea to an additional logo? maybe a 'Trusted Supplier' logo, those that would like the logo would have to be a member of this forum for a certain time and also agree to a 'code of conduct'. The code of conduct could include a promise to post on this forum if your business is closing and a promise to also help find alternative trusted suppliers in the event of something going wrong.

    Just an idea Hitched.

I think something like that could work too. It just doesn't seem right or fair that Hitched have found out this supplier has closed down but there are people on here who've booked who are oblivious.

A lot of Hitchers knew that she had closed down a while ago. She hasn't taken orders for a while now so it is the people who booked before. Her website is gone so she can't take any more.

There are 1000's of suppliers in the Directory probably a 100 that have closed down but unfortunately they don't tell the directories they have advertised in so can't be removed, they just disappear as Amour did, no explanation just that one of the Brides asked on FB if anyone had seen her as she couldn't contact her and Claire came on & told her that she had closed the business. I only knew as KBS had been in contact with me months prior to this.

It is not the fault of Hitched if they aren't told.

I have now receieved an email from Claire and she has offered me her deposit back.

I am now going to ask my flowers lady to do the chair covers.

I think you are right a trusted supplier icon would be helpful. The reason I booked Claire was that she was on hitched and I liked her answers to posts.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Those people who won prizes it might be worth emailing her, as she is looking at her emails and says she has people helping her fulfil the orders she has.

I'm so glad to hear you are getting your deposit back and managed to sort out another supplier for your chair covers. I feel that something needs doing because it has happened on Hitched before where businesses have closed, gone bust or done disappearing acts and it does shed a poor light on the good HIB's that are on here. I'm sure there would be lots of businesses on here who would be willing to sign up to a 'code of practice' if this could be done so it's binding.

I disagree to a certain point as one bad HIB does not reflect on the other HIB's on here at all, in my eyes anyway.. Yes she let a lot of people down, thank god that I still have time to get sorted but other Hitchers were not so lucky and only had weeks to go when she dropped that little bombshell..

However at least one other Hitcher that I know is now using another HIB on here who is absolutely fantastic and wouldnt let anyone down and, dare I say it, would do a better job of it too!

I dont think Amour Occasions is helping everyone out though unfortunately as when I read the last Hitchers post about emailing her as she is getting help in, her reply to my email was short and not so sweet basically informing me that I will NOT be getting my flowers at any point... so basically she has right royally stuffed me! Thanks Claire!

I'm glad you aren't going to be out of pocket. She should have been emailing ALL her customers, prize winners and paying customers alike, to give the deposit back and at least say sorry that she can't fulfill the prize and not have people panicking and chasing her. It's nothing short of rude apart from the business ethic of it.

That's not good is it... and on a slightly different angle, will also probably put people off buying raffle tickets for worthy causes in the future if they think that prizes won't be honoured from businesses as and when the time comes.

I do hope not, I would have donated toward Eliza's father in law cause anyway but the upside of that was I won a prize... No, I dont have that prize any more but looking at the bigger picture was that Eliza's father in law got to see them married and that, in itself, means so much more to me than some flowers... shame on Claire though as she, could have quite easily, made a mockery of the whole thing if we had let her... I'm glad that the Hitchers she did let down were strong enough to carry on and shrug her off...

Yes, what she did was annoying and wholly unprofessional but we have to look at the bigger picture here...
