Another flowers one....

fizl, 14 June, 2009 at 20:16 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi girls (and boys)

I am getting married in september this year, and by far the hardest thing I am finding is choosing flowers. The main reason for this is that although I like flowers, I don't actually pay much attention to them, so dont know much about them or what they are.

I was thinking of having tulips (as they are my favorite flowers) but I believe they will be extortionate in september. I was browsing in a book at the florist and they did have a lovely corsage and also a narrow bridal bouquet that were orange gloriosa lillies and calla lillies. Unfortunately, the florist who deals with weddings had just gone home feeling unwell, so I wasn't able to to chat about potential prices etc.

As gloriosa lillies would have to be ordered in specially, I was wondering if anyone knew roughly how much they would cost per stem, as they did hint they would charge for the arrangements on a per stem/flower basis (they would have to order the gloriosa in specially, as they dont normally stock it)

thanks for any info in advance

Shaz

I don't know how much they are each per stem, but i do recall seeing them at covent garden flower market, and remember the wholesaler saying they were very expensive, very delicate and die very quickly. but they are very beautiful.

sorry i can't be of any more help.

    Hi Shaz

Gloriosa isn't particularly expensive, neither does it have to be bought in huge quantities so if you want to use it with calla lilies to give you an accent I really don't think it would break the bank. In fact, it's less expensive than the calla lilies at the moment! Your own florist will have to advise you on their pricing structure, but the cost will always reflect the cost/number of stems used. Also, it's entirely normal for any florist to order a bride's wedding flowers in specially, so the fact that they have to order it in specifically for your wedding shouldn't be an issue.

Don't be put off if that's what you want! Gloriosa should be widely available in September, and is absolutely beautiful!
