Another house post - flash your bathrooms please...

*gnashers*, 5 January, 2014 at 18:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 28

Now Christmas is out of the way, we are working on getting our bathroom sorted.

We have a very small bathroom, so can't do anything too extravagant.

This is it now (sorry for the rotation, this is Hitched at it's finest!)

We are going to have a P Shaped bath (with the sticky out bit nearest the door), and then along the back wall where the loo is, we'll have something like this...

So what I need is tiling and flooring inspiration.

Can you flash your bathrooms please to give me some ideas (or suggest anything, I am all pintrested out)

As you know our bathroom is still a work in progress... We have wenge dark wood bath panels, sink unit and back to wall toilet unit. Tiles are from Tile HQ (highly recommended) and are dark beige on the window wall and ivory on the two others.

    From our Latvian pad.

I much prefer darker tiles in the bathroom as they tend to not show up the dirt, hair etc as much as light colours. I don't have the time/am too lazy to be washing walls/floors daily.

Plus I think it creates a slightly more tranquil environment to soak in the bath without staring at bright light tiles.

I do like that, but to be honest, we only plan to be in the house another 3 years or so, so I want to do something a bit more neutral, that'll appeal when we are selling it on.

This is our bathroom, we did a feature strip of the dark metallic tiles that we really liked in the centre of the bath and kept the rest a neutral sandstone effect tile. It meant we kept the bathroom nice and light and only had to buy 3 of the stupidly expensive tiles that we really liked! We also tiled in a portrait brick bond to make it look a little different.

Another from our pirouette listing. We have no need of stools for small people to stand on to wee. If you think of this bathroom minus mint fluffy rug and with more cath kidston, soap and glory smelies and moshi monster *** and you basically have our bathroom.

Wtf?! Pirouette means of course right move.

The tiles are Laura Ashley- the seller was keen to tell us this.

We decided not to rip out the panelling (which was ORANGE when we moved in) as it was creating more trouble than it was worth.

The bathroom isn't quite finished in this picture (cupboard is now white and the tops of the tiles etc) but you get the idea.

This was our bathroom when we moved in (personally I don't like it but I flashed it just incase it was something you liked)

This was our bathroom after we did it up Smiley smile The floor picture was just after we'd put the floor down (I don't seem to have a finished picture of the whole room)

Again, stolen from Zoopla. they are pretty boring really. I'd love a fancy schmancy wet room.

My niece-in-law (?)'s bathroom is lovely, but when you look closer, it's very cleverly done out. The base colour is just neutral white/greys (darker tiles on floor, lighter tiles on walls, white suite, white painted top half to walls). It's her accessories/towels/etc, all in lovely shades of pale to dark turquoise, that make it look fab. The bonus is that the base is very unoffensive, so appealing to future buyers.

Footers thats what we plan to do with ours, gray and white with dark plum and raspberry toned towels etc. I like the turquoise idea too.

    That does sound nice.

I quite like this idea, but not sure it's neutral enough...

I love that too Gnashers. Think FTLOMB has the best idea of keeping it neutral with flashes of colour from accessories if you plan to sell it on. Bathrooms are always so uninspiring in most peoples houses but it's one of those rooms (like the kitchen) that often seems to make or break a house purchase. Mine is dull white and the previous owners put wooden panelling around the bottom - but obviously ran out of panelling half way around so that the pattern suddenly changes. Really need to get around to sorting that out....

We also have a small bathroom and a similar layout. I am going for a P shaped Bath with freestanding vanity unit and separate toilet. We love the grey metro tiles and the vanity unit is a creamy colour with white basin. Have seen it in a showroom and it looks good. Since am upduffed am trying not to have to do all the organising but current quotes are about 8K - eek.

our old bathroom was white (dirty) but a broken leaking shower, pipe work on display and 80s style shell sink design. we couldn't change the layout as it's really tiny.

we had the pipe work boxed in and the shower plumped into the wall, heated chrome towel rail and more modern style toilet and sink. chose stone coloured tiles to make it a bit warmer, as the room is north facing.

Thanks for all your thoughts ladies.

MIL thinks the small tiles will make it look smaller. I'm not sure I agree.

It's all going to come down to cost really - I don't want to spend too much as we will move on in three years or so.

More flashes always welcome of course

My very small bathroom has giant tiles on the walls and floors. During a 2 hour session with a bathroom designer on saturday he said this would make the small bathroom look small he also said fully tiling in small tiles would have the same effect. He advised that if we go for grey metro tiles not to fully tile the room ie. it will be part tiled like in the picture you posted, just fully tiled in the bath area and half tiled around the wc and basin. (have added that pic to my inspiration board!)

Incidentally if you are sourcing materials yourself I would recommend looking at walls and floors. Also they are doing 5 tile samples for £1 this friday and saturday. I used them for my kitchen tiles and they were the cheapest, plus very good customer service. They deliver on their own lorries so no courier woes.
