Another house selling question - sorry.

Just a quick one. I was going to put a reply on CBH's thread but it didn't feel to right to crash it! We've been on the market since April and had 3 viewings and no offers. I think the problem might be that half of the rooms in our house are unfurnished, we decided to sell when we were halfway through doing the house up and therefore we didn't want to have to go to the expense of having to furnish all the rooms. Each room has carpets/curtains in but not necessarily furniture. Would this be a problem to you if you viewed a house? Would you find it a bit odd even if the seller explained why?

After reading CBH's thread I'm wondering if there are small things I can do to make it look more lived in? I'm also wondering if the rooms that are furnished are not really homley enough and a bit bland - I take a very minimalist approach in house decorating and we have very few pictures on the wall/ornaments etc etc.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd very grateful to hear them.

Borrow furniture from friends or family. Look on free cycle for some that you could use in the interim and then freecycle again at the end. Failing both of those you can hire some. Beg and borrow some pictures for walls or pick up some cheap IKEA frames. IKEA is also good for vases, dried flowers etc - all helpful in a little house doctoring to make the place look nice. Also a few rugs on the floors

I think people can see through if there isn't any at all or if there is total furnishings - but I guess somewhere in the middle may be a problem - even if you explain.

I see what you mean. We have carpets/curtains/vases & pretend flowers on window sills but no actual furniture - which does sound and probably looks a bit odd. I've tried to borrow some things but no-one seems to have anything spare unfortunately. I had thought about furnishing everything on the cheap but was then worried it wouldn't be in keeping with the rest of the house. My OH seems to think it's not a problem and thinks people can see beyond it and might even be able to imagine their own furniture in the empty rooms whereas I'm not so sure...
