A radio one this time... I heard this repeated many times a couple of weekends ago on Virgin Radio (don't normally listen to it so don't know if it was just that weekend or an ongoing ad).
Basically, it was a kid in a bored voice going 'the cinema, the skating rink, the burger place... the cinema, the skating rink, the burger place... the cinema... And then the voice over said something like 'take your kids somewhere more interesting this weekend' and it was about a film or something, implying that the imaginary world of the films was somewhere new and exciting for the kids to go.
Everytime I heard it my blood boiled because a) as a kid doing any one of those things would have been a treat so great I'd have looked forward to it for weeks and have been so incredibly excited about that I couldn't believe that kids were being encouraged to state / feel that these were boring and b) my entire childhood was spent losing myself in imaginary worlds that were provided by books.
I'm getting to be an old fuddy duddy, aren't I? ?
