Another Nosey Question

Panjita, 26 January, 2011 at 09:51 Posted on Planning 0 18

How did you choose your table names? (if you are having table names?!)

Ours are all named after bars and restaurants in our favourite holiday resort (which is kinda how we met!)

The intention with ours is to name them after our favourite sweets.....so we have a love hearts table, cola bottles, giant strawbs etc

i say intention, as we have a year to go as yet, and so far during the engagement, pretty much everything has been changed lol

We decided to go with numbers as they're not often seen these days. We got some fab free standing wooden ones which we'll stand near the candelabra on the tables.

We are just doing numbers, It was proving a bit hard to come up with about 20 names for tables so stuck with numbers instead!!

Ours will be named after Waterfalls in the local area (N. Yorkshire - there's plenty to choose from!).

OH took me to do the Ingleton Waterfalls Walk as a first date, which sparked off my love affair with waterfalls.

We're doing WW2 planes - OH is obssessed with war films, we have a slight 1940's theme plus both of our grandads served in the air force.

Top table is called 'Mr & Mrs' (spelt out in freestanding letters) and the other 6 tables will have one letter on card in table number holders which will spell out our surname.

Table names is one of the areas I've let him decide on - they really won't make any difference to how much I enjoy the day so he's chosen his Bradford City dream team!! We're having our day at their ground, him and his best man are both lifelong season ticket holders, and our colour scheme is their colours!! I don't really know who any of the players are but we're going to have a bit of a bio on the back of each table name card in case anyone cares lol

He got so excited that he was allowed to choose these, it made him actually get interested in the planning, so I'm happy to let him have it.

At first I thought labelling your tables was a bit OTT, but on reflection, we both now like the idea.

OH has suggested names of Swiss Cheeses (Emmental, Gruyere, etc)... I prefer Swiss mountains (Monta Rosa, Matterhorn, Eiger, Jungfrau etc).

(Unsurprisingly, this is because we live in Switzerland)

I foolishly told him ages before we got engaged that if he would just hurry up and propose I'd let him have the wedding at Valley Parade........and as soon as he'd proposed he reminded me of it LOL so I just thought why not! I've been to too many weddings where the bride is in every detail and it's almost as if the groom has literally just turned up and done as he's told - it's OUR day and I want him to love it as much as I will.

It's creeping into a few too many areas though, chocolate footballs for the favours, and a table plan set out like a football field LOL

I totally agree and kinda feel a bit for brides who end up doing everything themselves. We have really enjoyed picking everything together and H2B has probably had MORE involvement in the details than me (he made all the favours/place names, arranged the seating plan etc), he is golden.

LOL @ the table plan etc!!! Like you say though, it's not really gonna be an issue is it. I keep stressing about stuff but as long as he turns up and marries me, that's all that really matters!

That's what I keep trying to remember - it's only one day and most of the fancy stuff is just for show for the guests - ours really is only for the guests as we're actually getting married at Niagara Falls in a helicopter! It's hard not to get too bogged down in the details but as long as everyone has a great time and the buffet is ace, I'm not that bothered ?

Our table names will probably be Tor names on Dartmoor.

He proposed to me in a field of bluebells in the wilderness of dartmoor so what could be more perfect, was even thinking of getting some granite or something to put the names on (somehow!)

so it would be stuff like Haytor, Hound Tor etc. ?

We are having landmarks/places of interest in Auckland NZ where OH is from. Just brings a bit of her heritage to the wedding along with her parents.

Waiheke, Bay of Plenty, Rangitoto, Sky Tower, Rotorua, One Tree Hill
