Another photography thread - making your own albums

brideseekingblush, 9 December, 2009 at 16:49 Posted on Planning 0 18

Has anyone here gone/planning to just go for a disc and then done their own printing and mounting? Also what are you ladies doing - traditional albums or coffee table books?

    Hi,

Our album is done by the photographer and I have no idea what it's called. I just know it's a leather album that we choose. We also got a cd with the images and I'm doing a Photobox album for my parents. It's my task for tonight and I think it will take a while to do and organise but I've seen the albums and for £30 they are fab quality. x

Thanks PG. So they have sold you the album, but you're arranging the photos in it - is that it?

I think what PG was saying is that her photographer did an album plus a disc and she is going to use the photos from the disc to do a photobook online in addition to the album made by the photographer.

We are having ours done by the photographer and also having a disc.

A work colleague just made a photobook on photobox, which arrived today. She highly recomended using them too.

I asked suz at pretty wild to make me an album with tissue paper leaves. We had a vintage wedding so wanted an ole fashioned album. We chose 200 pics from our tog (not easy!) and got them printed in 6x4 and made up our own album. The album that was made for us was perfect and fitted our theme perfectly!

I also went to photobox and have just ordered our coffee table book in time for party guests at xmas...

Thank you all Ladies, that's really helpful. I'll def check out pretty wild, as I think that's the sort of thing I want - teehee - did you find 6x4 big enough, or do you reckon 8x6 would be better?

We chose to do this - but 4 years on and all the pics still haven't made it into the album! It was an absolute mission....

In my opinion, (for what it's worth) the best bet with this is to forget the idea of an album and half a few really nicely framed pictures on the wall, that you can look at everyday.

Get the rest of the pictures and slip them into a reasonable 'slip in' style album.

This way you get to see your favourite images all the time, and you've still got all of your images for viewing.

Thanks Pete - I just wondered why you thought that - I just want a non-story book, pictures in an album - everyone seems to do storybooks now - I want the old-fashioned thing!

YES! me too! i've crossed many togs off my list because they don't to traditional old-fashioned albums, only the new fancy digital ones with photos printed right onto the page! i am also wondering whether it is worth doing my own albumbs. however, i know myself and my OH and we're both quite disorganised. i feel like the photos would stay on the disc (or even if we printed them, they'd stay in the envelope!) and life would just take over and suddenly 5 years down the line we wouldn't have the lovely coffee table book that we both want. have looked into getting the pictures put into an album for me, but am now thinking it's easier to find a tog who can do the album for us - saves us going to different suppliers etc. if u want to take a look, here are some album designers i found

http://www.albumdesigner.co.uk/ - but this one only does digital ones!

Thanks, that does - sort of, but the second one doesn't look properly mounted but more along the storybook way - maybe the first one could be, but my worry is they might look a bit scrap-booky from the way they're mounted. I can't believe how difficult it is to find someone. I'm still minded to keep my photography and mount 'em ourselves - we're not going to want hundreds in the album - and I think something like this could be right for us:

Betcha in ten years time the "storybook" approach will be out of fashion and it will ALL be trad albums!

absolutely! also traditonal ones just look like they'll last longer!

those albums are pretty - there are also some really nice leather ones on this site below. try the 'Traditional' tab on the left of the page.

The magazine style coffee table books are popular and some makes are very good, although a craft made quality traditional style album is also a beautiful thing.

I just think you get more long term pleasure from looking at a couple of really nicely presented pictures on your wall, rather than a really expensive album.

You can look at Jorgensen albums, they have a traditional/contemporary feel to them... https://www.swpm.net/Albums.html

Don't get me wrong, I think that storybooks are cool, but they're also a bit too fashionable. I think that 10 years down the line they'll look a little 'flares' where as an elegant album, may not look the most amazing album right now, will always look rather good.
