Answer me this....

Why do some people on this forum say "Mom" instead of "Mum"? Am I missing something?

I don't think I've noticed tbh. Now that you've pointed it out though, I'll probably notice it ?

So, Brummy hitchers - if you are writing a card to your Ma would you address it to "Mum or Mom"?

Interesting.. thanks for that. I just wondered if you wrote it how you said it outside of Hitched or if you just used "Mom" in written form on here.

I found it weird hearing Mom when I lived in Birmingham. My Fiance at the time was born and bred there and I was like "Say MUM!!" lol, did my head in.. But then alot of the way they said stuff did.

Everything lol.. Round here people say "At night" but everyone in Brum seemed to say "Of a night".

I used to try and get my ex to say stuff 'properly' lol.. Even stuff like "Ages" instead of "Aiiiiiiiiges".

I don't have an accent, but wish I did, everyone says I just sound posh (I don't!). I love the Geordie accent too!

I think generally it changes the further north you go... London it's Mum (or Mother if you are really posh!), Birmingham becomes Mom, Newcastle becomes Mam...

I called mine Mama... always have done... She once got my friends to refer to her as "Susie Darling O Great One"... that didn't catch on so well.

    Dad is Daddy to me.

I always say and write Mam, as my family are all from Cumbria. Tbh I don't mind how people say things I like hearing different accents.

Spangles, you're not the ony one who was finding it odd. I've been noticing it for a while! Most of the time I call my mother mum, when I want something it becomes mummy or mummy dearest! If I want to wind her up or am annoyed with her I call her Mother!
