Antibiotics/going back to GP question.

How long do anti-bs take to work?

Wizzy was diagnosed with ear infections on Monday morning and prescribed amoxicillin, she started to perk up Tuesday and Wednesday and her temp went down. This afternoon her temp went back up, she's saying her ear hurts and she's sticking her finger in it and wiggling it around constantly.

Should they have worked by now or should I go back to the docs in the morning? SO fed up with all this.

Thank you ?

If she's got it in both ears it may take a few days to kick in properly. I would go back just to check that they are starting to work because by the time her course of tablets finish will be the beginning of next week and if they're not doing the trick by then, you're a bit screwed because its Christmas Eve and the likelihood of you getting an appointment would be practicaly nil. Get them to give her the once over to make sure the dose is high enough. When Owen had a really really bad ear infection we were referrd to ENT because they thought it might have done some damage to his inner ear (thankfully it hadn't) but they can be quite nasty and hard to shift.

Hope she's better soon & you too ?

My daugher who is 6 just finished a course of anti-b's for a throat infection, it wasnt till the last day of the course that her temp seemed to stay down, we went back to the Gp's for this reason and was told to give it a few more days, and sure enough she is better now.

I took her back as i felt the anti-b's were not really doing anything(temp was 39 still after a few days) and she was being pumped full of calpol and nurofen.

I hope she is feeling better soon.

Thanks ladies, normally I wouldn't fuss so much but it's the fact that she got a bit better then got worse again that's bothering me.

I still don't know what to do, why can't I make a decision these days ?
