any 60s/motown music fans?? need your help please

lisaloulou, 1 June, 2008 at 14:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I need to choose 2 songs for the bridal prep section (probably upbeat) on our wedding DVD and one more for the guests mingling section.

I love 60s / motown music although am no expert in the slightest, hardly knowing the group/singer or song title most of the time. I just know I like it! This is what we have chosen so far (although I appreciate Richard Marx coudl be said to be 80s cheese lol).

Ben E King - Stand By Me (first dance)
The Temptations - My Girl (exit)
The Ronettes - Be My Baby (signing register)
Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting (entrance and signing register)
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl (evening reception)

Anyone got any ideas in keeping with the music we have chosen?

TIA

I like 'Then He Kissed Me' by The Crystals. Not sure if it would be appropriate though.

I just looked up The Drifters as my Mum loves them, and they have a song called This Magic Moment

I don't know the song but the lyrics seem quite sweet http://www.actionext.com/names_d/drifters_lyrics/this_magic_moment.html

I can only think of one for the bridal preparation section: He's so fine, by the Chiffons-it invokes an image of girls getting ready and chatting about the man in question!

For guests mingling, how about Lovely Day by Bill Withers?

What about "Chapel of Love" by the Dixie Cups?

It's the one that starts "Going to chapel, and we're going to get married....."

    Cheesey I know.

Sorry I've only just got back to this. Thanks for your reply.

Meep - I love that song but will it be strange as we had a civil ceremony?! If only it was "going to the hotel and we're..."!

I've been you-tubing the Drfiters and The Chiffons and I'm thinking One Fine Day by The Chiffons might be an option although the words aren't totally appropriate.

The only one I've thought of so far is The Temptations, Get Ready - WDYT?

(Might do a shameless bounce in the morning for weekday hitchers)

I have an enormous soft spot for "Baby I love you" by the Ramones - not Sixties, nor Motown (although it was wriiten in the 60s for the Ronettes) but the sentiment is beautiful.

Just to add, we had the following at our wedding and for music on the dvd:

My entrance-Feeling Good by Nina Simone

    Signing Register-Signed, Sealed, Delivered-Stevie Wonder

Exit-All the time in the World-Louis Armstrong

First dance-You make me feel like a natural woman-Aretha Franklin

Wedding dvd music: We married in Scotland, so had some instrumental music (theme from Bourne Indentity etc) in places, but as follows:

Romantic sequence(basically us gadding about in the grounds on our own-having pics taken etc)-The look of love-Dusty Springfield

5 minute Black and white highlights of day section-At last-Etta James

Guests outside in the evening during fireworks display-Moondance-Van Morrison and Dancing in the Moonlight-Toploader
