Any font/design pedants around?

What would you think if work colleagues send emails in comic sans by default?

I'm of course not reacting but it seems its popularity is spreading in one of the departments I work with, which is puzzling. I'm tempted to put bancomicsans.com in my sig for a laugh.

I'd respond with violence and bloodshed.

Thanks Flowery and Mrs. Winkle, I realised it's a bit of a pointless thread this, but I just can't imagine why someone in a professional capacity would decide to use this font to send emails in. I want to tell them in their faces but I can't!

An amazing number of people seem to hate comic sans.

Tell them to their face with a shovel.

I actually have a genuine grievance with comic sans. A lot of people use it to try and hide very bad writing. I worked on revamping some posters that had been designed to try and introduce school children to some fairly complex science concepts. The original posters were written very badly, but had been designed in comic sans to make them more "accessible". I find that lazy, and also patronising to the school kids.

I can't bear comic sans, but I know some people use it because apparently it's easier to read for people with dyslexia or vision problems.

I used to work in NHS management and a lot of the HR/equality documentation had to be in comic sans. Horrible.

The British Dyslexia Association suggests using a sans serif font. There are plenty of those that aren't comic sans ?

I was just about to write this. I used to work for someone who insisted that the entire team used comic sans in a dark blue as our email font. Talking to her about it, I was told that her nephew was badly dyslexic and that the whole family used this font as it was the best for him to read. Hence, she decided it was accessible and implemented it into team documents.

The BDA suggest Arial as well; why oh why can't people use that instead? Accessible and professional.

IMO the use of comic sans gives the impression of "dumbing down" the content.

I shall play devil's advocate here and ask.. does it really matter? The emails still say the same thing surely? I personally just use the default font, which is ariel I think, but if someone gets their jollies at work by typing in a pink cheerful font, then whatever gets them through the day IMO
