Wow i didnt expect such a quick response! i thought there would only be me! hee hee!
have been to a few wedding fairs in the county and seen quite a few venues now...its hard to decide isnt it! especially when budgets come into play too! where are you all getting married?
We got married at St Catharine's in Gloucester and had our reception at the Frogmill in Andoversford. It's been sold and is being renovated again unfortunately but it was lovely at the time.
I've been to a wedding at Kingscot - very nice. There are so many lovely venues in the county though.
Calcot manor was nice too and Tythe Barn in Tetbury. There are lots of venues in glos though i guess! have been to wedding fair at Stonehouse Court and have also looked at Eastwood park
I too was a Gloucestershire bride a few years back, got married in St Mary De Lode, Gloucester and had our reception at Cheltenham Park (wouldn't recommend it although we had a nice day).
I've been to receptions at lots of places in Glos too, one of the nicest weddings i've been to was at Tortworth Court. Been to a couple at Stonehouse Court, Chase Hotel etc. but there aren't really THAT many nice places close to the Centre IYSWIM
I'm a wedding planner from Cheltenham and specialise in Cotswold/Gloucestershire weddings. Do you know what sort of venue you were looking for? There are so many from Castles to lovely country pubs with function rooms. What are the important things you're looking for?
I have been to a wedding at Stonehouse court to, it was lovely and the food was excellent.
I love the barn but having a mild panic at the moment as how much have to organise/ think about is dawning on me (at least I have a long time to plan!)
I did a wedding a couple of weeks ago at the Tithe Barn and am seeing a client in Bishops Cleeve on Friday. Small world.
Regarding Stonehouse, obviously it's one of only two places licensed to have outdoor ceremonies in Gloucestershire, the other being Rococo Gardens and up to this year it's been a good venue choice and reasonable. The main room, the Caroline suite is ok, better now they've gotten rid of the red carpet, but the price hike for this year is ridiculous and also, if you only want 60 people, you would still have to pay for a minimum number of 80. That in itself has put me off. However, the staff there are amazing, Laura and Dave are super helpful.
It really all depends on budgets, what were you looking for? I've always loved Manor by the Lake in Cheltenham, gorgeous house and grounds but can be a bit pricey. If you tell me what you are looking for and price, I can make some suggestions.
i didnt realise that stonehouse was one of only two licenced outside venues - thats interesting!
i do think their prices are too high though and the minimum requirement of 80 really annoys me! i only want 60 because i want those people there that are important to me and want it to be a more intimate affiar, so if i get married there i will have to pay for the minimum 80 number. i think thats really stupid!
i have seen lots of places - i want somewhere reasonably central and reasonably priced really! i dont really have any other major requirements i dont think!
Hi Dam, am I right in thinking all of your guests are stood around the court yard? It's pretty well covered so you will be fine if it rains.
Aim - That's pretty open then - There are so many venues to look at from Clearwell Castle, The Speech House in Coleford, The Swan in Bibury, Pittville Pump Rooms in Cheltenham, The Greenway in Cheltenham, The Green Dragon in Cowley, Wyck Hill House in Stow. These are all lovely venues. Without more of an idea ie/costings, character, style, it's a bit vague. Obviously hitched have a good directory but have a look here too
Just thought I looked at Luckington Court, it's very lovely (and who wouldn't love getting married in a house that feature in Pride and Predjice BBC adaptation).
It was a lovely venue and only reason we didnt persue it was that it was too small for our numbers (you can hire a marque for extra guests but H2B doesnt like them).
From memory you have access to the grounds, the dining room another room and the option to hire a bedroom for bride and bridsmaids to use.
added bonus is if you wanted a church element to the wedding the lady we spoke to said the Vicar of the local church (which is literally ext door) is happy to perform blessings.
Me toooooooooooooooooo!!!!! im getting married there next year though! do you have photographer sorted? who have you gone with? isnt claire lovely!!! bet you are realy excited now! are you having videographer?
I'm getting married at Clearwell Castle in Oct, does anyone have any names of photographers that they could throw in the hat for me? Not from that area myself.

Hi Ruth
hmmm When should you book flowers or at least start talking to florists? wedding is ages away but as I have no idea about flowers etc and don't want to find all the florists booked i am having a tiny panic, also any florist reccamendations?
We are currently thinking about catering and i need to organise my self to ring cateeres and start talking has anyone else done this? I am rubbish at explaing and negotiating so any hints welcome
I know that you've only got 4 caterers to speak to and I would say that they are much the same as they will all know what each other charges. However, if you do find one which is cheaper, then use that with the others to negotiate a better price. All you have to say to them is 'Strawberry are able to offer me a three course with coffee for £35 are you able to beat it?' They want your business so it's in their interest to be flexible with you or certainly offer you suggestions to how they could include extras, maybe upgrade your pre reception drink or something.
Regarding the flowers, you've got plenty of time but a lovely florist is Sara from Aqua, Cirencester, https://www.aquaflorist.com/ and Flowers by Fern. She is based in Gloucester but doesn't have a website. She's amazing too her number is ****. There is also a list of recommended suppliers on the Kingscote site.
I would say that a year to 9 months in advance is fine to start planning your flowers, but people are planning a lot more in advance with the credit crunch and from my prize draw entrants at wedding shows, October is one of the most popular months. It might be worth just calling a few florists to see how busy they are,
you are a star, feel much better equipped now for chasing food quotes.
Hooray for October for once in my life I am on trend for not subscribing to the Norm (in this instance a summer wedding) Don't get me wrong I love summer weddings I just didn't want to compete for a venue.
I'm a newbee who lurks frequently but just had to respond to this thread ?
I too am getting married in the area - well, edge of Herefordshire/Glos - but am having serious issues getting cars sorted. While it has an abundance of cows and cider, wedding cars seem to be few and far between...
Can anyone recommend any? I have tried yell, google and, thomson but no joy ☹️ probably doesn't help that I'm no car expert and we're not quite sure what we want...
