any hairdressers around?

flailing wildly, 26 September, 2008 at 15:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

If so, could I have a quick bit of advice? for my last haircut, I went to a new salon (and ergo, new stylist) and I wasn't happy with the cut at all. However, her cutting method seemed different to previous stylists I'd had, and I wanted to check whether her 'method' was correct or whether I've been attacked by a loon who walked off the street with pretendy qualifications ?

If anyone's around, I'll post the details (no secret to it, just didn't want to give chapter and verse whilst at work if no-one's available to answer).

Thanks!

    Thanks Mandie.

I have straight hair which is parted at the side, just below shoulder length, which is (apart from a sweeping fringe) is one length and cut blunt no layers etc.

Every time I've had it cut in the past, whichever stylist I used would part it as I normally wear it, and then cut it. This girl - rather to my surprise - parted it in the middle, trimmed everything bar my fringe, and then parted it to the side and cut my fringe (not very well, to be honest, as it didn't 'sweep' at all, but that's by the by).

Surely it isn't right to cut it when it's not parted as you'd wear it - wouldn't that mean when you parted it 'properly', the ends of my hair wouldn't be cut blunt across? I was a bit taken aback but she seemed to know what she was doing. But my hair doesn't feel like it's been cut at all, IYSWIM - it doesn't feel 'sharp' and doesn't fall properly.

Any thoughts gratefully received! Let me know if I haven't explained it correctly ?

I always cut in the clients prefered parting. I do then put it in a centre parting to check it over, that just means if you change your parting slightly it will still be one length. But if a client like yourself wants a blunt cut, then I wouldn't bother checking it in a centre parting. You are absolutely correct that it wouldn't be a blunt cut then. You do still run the risk of having a few longer bits should you change your parting.

Thanks for that. I gave the salon some sniffy feedback this morning, and then thought I'd better check, too late ?

I'll be changing my stylist, I think. I wasn't happy at all and she didn't seem that bothered TBH.

Last time I got a bad haircut I told them I wanted my money back, they were more than happy to do it so if I were you and were really not happy then I wouldn't hold back!
