I'm getting married in August 2014 in the ridings part of the de vere hotel. All so exciting!!! What side are you getting married? My friend is doing our cake but the recommended supplier looked really good, have you tried them?

Charlene where are you getting married?

We got married at Waltham Abbey church in March 2011 and had our reception in the Ridings Barn...

And we went to a wedding in the house last August, they actually got married in the gardens!

Lovely venue, amazing food... if Adrian is still there you are in good hands Smiley smile

Both fanhams and hanbury manor are stunning but very expensive. With the de vere I looked at the cost of the travel lodge but there was only £10 difference in price and the de vere includes breakfast!

What bridal shop in hitchin is good?

What band have you booked for the mansion house? Are you using Daisies for venue decoration?

Yes using cake cuisine. If your on FB like her page and you can see hundreds of pictures. Pretty reasonable too. Where in Enfield?? I work in Enfield Smiley smile. We got a good deal at Hanbury Manor as they had a Jan - Mar package that inc photographer and cake and we got so many rooms included. If the bridal shop in Hitchin is Morgan Davies then I hated it there. I found it a bit snobbish and there was not many dresses to choose from. The lady asked me how much my budget was and I said it was about £1300 and she told me they didnt have many budget dresses! Didnt think that was a budget dress. I then picked up a dress and she took it out my hand and said it was over my budget! I got my dress in The White Wardrobe in the end. I have to say though Clifford Burr in Ware is an amazing shop with literally hundreds of dresses to choose from! I already had my heart set on the dress I got when I went there but there were so many dresses to choose from!

That's why we loved it, because I didn't want a big wedding. I think that's the thing I learnt by looking at different venues, they're all lovely but quite often it comes down to size in the end.

We had another venue in mind in central london but thought the size of it would swamp our little wedding!

Nessa, I dont know where that is as don't know Enfield that well, but I really like it when people marry at a place that means something to them Smiley smile. Charlene, I think I have heard there is a really lovely women that works there and one not so nice. I think I know what one I got!!! I have no idea how much cakes cost as we got them in our package, but I had a quick look on her FB site and can see quotes ranging from £300 up to £500 for an amazing 5 tier cake. May be cheaper or more expensive.

Getting married on 2nd March!!! So excited as not long now!! I'm doing my own make up as make up is so important to me! I had a trial done and I didn't like it plus didn't like someone else doing it. Good excuse to buy a load of new make up Smiley smile

I'm getting married in Hertfordshire too, though we've not chosen a venue yet! Love the lnk of St. Michael's Manor, and Hunton Park too. But there are so many places to choose from! All seems a bit overwhelming at this stage to be honest, lol. Any venue recommendations would be gratefully received ?

Hi, I'm another Herts bride. Our reception is at St. Michael's manor too but in October 2013. All the venues mentioned are lovely! We really liked fanhams too but in the end, went for St. Michael's manor, because they only ever do one wedding in a day, whereas fanhams often have 2 (which is probably fine, but I was being a bit diva-ish in that I wanted to be the only bride there!).

I also had a similar experience to Figaro. I didn't like Morgan Davies in Hitchin at all. There is another one in Hitchin but I can't remember what it was called- expressions maybe? It's on Hermitage road and they were really nice. I got mine from Clifford Burr in Ware in the end.

I haven't got a cake yet but saw a stand for cake cuisine the other day at the hanbury manor wedding fayre, and they looked good! So might go for one of those!

As Hertfordshire is my home ground, if you can say a bit more about what you are after, I can easily suggest a range of some good venues for you.

Thank you! Thinking about £12,000 absolute maximum for the venue (including hire, food and drink etc). Budget is a little tricky to work out right now cos my parents are hoping to pay for a lot of it but don't know yet what they can afford. I guessed (!) at £10-£12k for the bulk and then can try and be a bit crafty with invitations etc. It would probably be one venue for both the ceremony and reception as we're not religious so wouldn't have a church. OH would like a stately home, but I'm thinking they are probably way out of our budget! Having looked at St. Michael's Manor and Hunton Park online we're going to go and see those in a few weeks' time, but I just feel a bit like we've exhausted all Hertfordshire venues and none of them are particularly jumping out! I'm very organised and always thought I'd love planning my wedding, but I can see stress isn't too far away already, haha.

    Thanks so much ?

If you're looking for a stately home, then you may not want to bother seeing Hunton Park. It's beautiful, but what we didn't realise when we went to view it, was that you can only have the reception in a marquee at the back. The bar inside and the hotel and gardens are lovely, but we weren't keen on the attached marquee. It's personal preference, but just thought I'd mention it, as you said you were looking for a stately home. Brocket Hall and Luton Hoo are very grand stately homes, but unless you can get a special deal, will be way over your budget I'd imagine.

Oh thank you so much Cinderellabella, you've saved us a wasted trip! I'm ruling out all marquee venues cos it's just not something we fancy - would be nice if they made that a bit clearer! Will have a look at Brockett Hall and the one in Luton just in case.
