Any hitchers having a church wedding followed by pub reception? *flashes included

moonpie1985, 30 March, 2011 at 20:49 Posted on Planning 0 16

When I think back to when I was young and I pictured getting married, I always had a vision of Polhawn Fort, with its private beech, and quirky things like drawbridge and cannons on the roof. We used to stay there with family when I was young, and it was fantastic.

The last thing I ever thought about was a traditional style church wedding.

Now to today and we are planning our church wedding in the village I gew up with my parents, and having our reception in our faveourite gastro pub 1 mile down the road from it. Our main reason for doing this was so we could invite everyone we wanted to, and didnt need to worry about people being able to get there. (Polhawn Fort being absolulty miles away and in the middle of nowhere!)

So who else on here, is having a seemingly 'traditional' wedding with a less than extravegant reception?

    We're having our wedding in a hotel, the ceremony will be in the gardens;

And then a BBQ up on the patio of the garden suite. Nothing grand, very understated.. but it's just what we both want. We couldn't imagine a wedding better than this one for us.

Not a church wedding, we are getting married in a beautiful 15th century manor house and then on the local inn for a lovely meal and evening reception. The inn is thatched and also dates back to the 15th century so both venues tie in quite nicely with each other.

Wow - that is a huge guest list! And such a lot of children - how do you know so many?!

Bouncy castle sounds like a fab idea! I have heard that there is a company with a white one especially for garden weddings!

It definitly sounds like yours will be the best day ever for you, and one never to forget (so don't drink too much at the working mens club! ;-) xxx

I'm not but just wanted to add that Polhawn Fort is my dream venue! If we could have afforded it, we'd have booked it for the whole week and had a wedding festival! Ahhh soooo pretty.

It really is amazing isnt it?!

I couldn't believe the prices when I looked when we 1st got engaged.

Only 10 years ago we used to hire the place out for a week for under £2k in summer time.

Not its around £10k for a weekend booking in summer!

If I win the lottery this weekend, I would defo go down and get it sorted though. And hire the yacht to go with it at the same time!

We're kinda doing the opposite ? it's a register office ceremony so I guess that counts as 'less than extravagant', then afternoon tea in a church hall for the day guests... and THEN a huge big party in a converted cathedral!

For a start my partner has 11 borothers and 2 sisters! between them they have 28 kids! we have 3 of our own and all our friends have at least 1 child. The day wouldnt be the same without them there!

The majority of the guest list belongs to my partner! He is from a huge background and after working throught he list a fewtimes we cant really take any1 off, his mum is 1 of 10 and his dad 1 of 5 so theres alot of aunts and uncles we have drawn the line with the cousins apart from a few which are more like friends! Im from a small family so thats a good thing! just 2 of us, i dont have any nieces/nephews and only 1 cousin!

Im not a drinker so i am hoping to remeber everything!!

Our wedding is in an old house in the middle of a park with the reception a short walk away in the boathouse by the lake. I used to want to get married abroad or in this country in a castle!! Our reception is just a big party, with a buffet, no wedding breakfast and the whole day will be fairly relaxed and informal (I hope!)

    6 months...eek!

I am - Having the ceremony in the place where I was christened and my grandfather was vicar there for 16 years, and then we're off to the pub where we live for dinner - it does weddings, but the food is what we would eat whilst there so nice and simple Smiley smile lol nothing wrong with it - WE chose it because we love it so much Smiley smile
