any ideas on how to diy ice cream van?

lovelygirl, 8 January, 2011 at 10:35 Posted on Planning 0 9

Well the wedding is at 12.30 and can't see us sitting down to eat until 4.30 for our hog roast breakfast, so was thinking ice cream at the drinks reception bit would help stave off the hunger pangs??? but being a saturday in august the ice cream vans can earn lots of money and not interested in 1 hours worth.....

Also the wedding is at the local village hall.

Take a chest freezer down there (not sure of the practicalities of actually moving one!) decorate it with some nice ribbons, plug it into the mains and fill it with ice lollys?

Maybe speak to your hog roast provider, they might have some suppliers they work with who will do you a good deal even for an hour becasue of their relationship with the hog roast company?

Well from my parents front door to the village hall is about 2 minute drive so i think i might be able to get away without carting a chest freezer... also there is only going to be about 60 people..... which ice creams do you think you would like?

Have u spoken to any? I would of thought they would 'hire' themselves out for an hour or at least pop round your way at that time? I know you can get proper ice cream vans to hire but dont know where etc. If you are doing it yourself i would get classics that you know ppl will like, such as magnum or similar, screwballs for the kids? Choc ices? And a fruity one? I think its a lovely idea i know id like one on a hot day at a wedding! xx

I'm with Shelley- I would have thought an ice cream man would be made up with an hours guaranteed sales. And with it being so early, they still have the rest of the day to make their money!

Have you asked any? I think it would be bloody awesome to have an ice cream van!

We are having an ice cream van at our wedding , its actually father in laws business but hes done the odd wedding before and he likes doing them, he adds up how much its all costing and then bills them but you could agree on a minimum figure you give them even if no one wanted an ice cream. where are you?

I read about a company called sunsetices in Brides magazine, but just looked at the website and they are too far north for you. I'm sure there will be other vans that can be hired out and they are guaranteed 50 sales or so. I think its a lovely idea for a summer weddingl.

Do you have any local ice cream farms? We have one near me which is gorgeous and sells little tubs of their ice cream. Think they also can hire out their ice cream stand.. Might be worth having a look around for something like that?
